Kittiwake is a stylishly presented dog-friendly property, divided over three floors and constructed in 2008 to a high specification, offering flexible luxury accommodation for families or couples looking for an idyllic beachside retreat. Hallsands is a traditional fishing village on the South West Coast Path with an intriguing history and shingle beach, a perfect location for walkers (with or without dogs) looking to explore the stunning coastline.
The property sleeps up to eight people in four bedrooms. Two are on the ground floor (one master with super King-size bed, rear terrace and luxury en suite, and one King with sea views). The two further twin bedrooms are on the second floor. Built into the roof space, they are perfect for children. Adjacent to these two rooms is a snug/games room, and a family bathroom.
The main living accommodation is on the first floor and comprises a sitting room with stunning sea views, and an open plan kitchen/dining room, with access to a further terrace. There is also a separate utility area.
Outside there is parking for 2-3 cars, plus a rear terrace (gas barbecue available), and a beautifully positioned front terrace with stunning views over Hallsands beach and out to sea. With the village of Beesands and the Start Point lighthouse both within walking distance, this truly is the perfect spot for exploring the South West Coast Path.
Due to the proximity of the cottage to the beach and coast path, young children must be supervised at all times.
Hallsands is a small village near Start Point, one of the most southerly points on Devon’s coastline, near Salcombe in the beautiful South Hams area. The sheltered South Hams Peninsula is in 'deepest Devon', a pastoral landscape of flowering hedgerows and ancient sunken lanes, carved into by the richly wooded Avon and Dart Valleys. This quiet fishing village, with its dog-friendly, unspoilt beach, is situated next to the historic ‘old village’ of South Hallsands, just three miles from the popular Beesands Beach which has its own gastro pub and shop. This Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is decorated with white, pink and ochre thatched cottages, picturesque fishing ports such as Dartmouth, and is renowned for its stunning coastline, popular with yachting enthusiasts. Much of the clifftop land has been acquired by the National Trust, a haven for bird watchers and walkers who take advantage of the South West Coast Path, peppered with perfect picnic spots. Nearby, uncover the beauty of Blackpool Sands and Torcross, a historic site where the Normandy landings were practiced; explore the nature reserve at Slapton Ley, and stroll along Slapton Beach, feeling the soft sand between your toes. Park at East Portlemouth and catch the ferry across to the beautiful seaside town of Salcombe with its renowned estuary, or visit the Start Point Lighthouse, less than a mile away. Hallsands is a wonderful base for uncovering the unspoilt beauty of Devon and the South Hams, all year round.

Everything worked and was in a good state. The only things that would have been nice to have were some Christmas decorations (to make the house a bit more festive), and a rolling pin for our baking session! As previously mentioned by other parties, no smart TV exposes the limited selection of channels available.

The position and layout of Kittiwake means that you have a beautiful view of the sea from the lounge - simply breathtaking. I never tired of the view. The house had everything we needed (and more) Everywhere was spotless and the beds were incredibly comfortable. Our teens loved the eaves rooms with the little tv room and their own bathroom - it was like their own granny flat! Outside the house is a raised decked area with deckchairs overlooking Hallsands Beach. Great place to enjoy the sunshine (and maybe a gin & tonic or two) 40 mins along the clifftop coastal path takes you to to the tiny fishing village of Bessands where you will find the Cricket Inn and the Brittania on the Beach. Both are superb and do get booked up in advance in peak months. (Donât be put off by the outside appearance of the Brittania - its known locally as âthe shackâ â¦..the seafood is famous for miles around) The Brittania also does takeaway fish & chips, with lots if outside trestle tables to sit at, so bring your own beer and wine and enjoy supper overlooking the sea) Another 30 mins on along the coastal path takes you to Torcross/Slapton sands, There are so many amazing walks directly from the house we ran out of days to try them all. A couple of items we didnât bring which we will bring next time - beach shoes rather than flip flops as Hallsands beach is stony in parts. (This is great though as it means even in high season it never gets too busy) Also binoculars - on the coastal path towards the Start Point lighthouse there are often seals playing on the rocks. We saw them from the cliff top but would be amazing to see close up! We had a wonderful holiday in this amazing house and hope to return. We travelled as a family of four (teenagers) and a dog. Thank you so much The Dobson family

Some things to suggest: - a deep cleaning, especially the oven. - better chairs outside - the plastic adirondacks are not that comfortable - a smart TV - it would be nice to have access to Netflix, Amazon, etc under our subscription. And having both TV's unable to watch different things - huh?
