Great Torrington 3.8 miles. This beautifully converted barn is attached to the owner’s 200-year old farmhouse, set within the quiet rural hamlet of Huntshaw, near Great Torrington in North Devon. Surrounded by paddocks and gently rolling Devon meadows, this charming cottage provides a touch of luxury and perfect peace for a relaxing holiday. The floor-to-ceiling windows provide plenty of light and wonderful views of the countryside and the underfloor heating makes the property warm and cosy underfoot, all year round. The kitchen has traditional slate flooring, and the dining area in the sitting room faces the picture windows, providing the perfect spot for a long breakfast whilst preparing plans for the day ahead. After an afternoon exploring this wonderful area of Devon, the bedroom with king-size bed and garden views, and luxurious en-suite wet room, provides a welcome retreat to retire to. Guests will enjoy stepping through the French doors onto a peaceful, private patio, which is often bathed in sunshine, and planted carefully with colourful shrubs and flowers. Walks are plentiful in this area of Devon, the Tarka Trail being a particular favourite, a 180-mile route through the stunning scenery of North Devon with some magnificent viewpoints along the way. Whilst staying, investigate the Civil War town of Great Torrington, and the famous Dartington Glass factory or the elegant carriages at Arlington Court, RHS Rosemoor, and many more wonderful gardens. The sandy beaches at Westward Ho! and Instow are fifteen minutes' drive away, as is the historic, sloping harbour village of Clovelly, or alternatively why not take a day cruise to Lundy Island where you may see puffins, seabirds, basking sharks and seals? After an action-packed day, Pound Cottage assures you of a peaceful and welcoming retreat to return to.
Great Torrington is an unspoilt town built on high ground above the River Torridge, a fifteen-minute drive from the spectacular North Devon coast at Westward Ho!.
