Great location for exploring west Dartmoor and very helpful hosts. If there was a 4.5 star option I'd give it. Slight downsides were only a J cloth for washing up, no loo brush, and (for me) not quite enough kitchen equipment, eg a lid for both the larger saucepans and a teapot would have been helpful. Steps up to the front door are very steep and slippery in the wet. Horrabridge has pubs and a chippy but no cafe! Otherwise all good and comfortable, thank you.

We spent 3 days mid-July 2025 at this lovely little apartment. We booked at very short notice the day before arrival. The owners (Nick & Claire) were welcoming and helpful. The bed was comfy, the accommodation was clean and so well designed that it did not feel cramped at all. The kitchen was well equipped and we were able to comfortably cook full meals from scratch. The shower and hot water provisions were excellent.Absolutely perfectly sited for access to walkers or cyclists with the scenic and viaduct scattered cycle route 27 (Plymouth-Ilfracombe) a short and enchanting wooded path from directly out of the back door. Regular buses in both directions (Tavistock/Plymouth) from stops virtually outside the main house.Nearby Tavistock has a range of eateries, and we can recommend the Annex for a special meal out.Definitely would stay again, and probably for longer.

What a gem of a place! We had a lovely few nights at Magpies Rest. Everything was super clean and comfortable, felt at home straight away. Nick was extremely responsive and very welcoming throughout our stay. Its located very close to Plymouth, easy driving distance and the direct acces to Dartmoor national park through the back gate was so useful. Plenty to do and we wish we could have stayed longer. We would love to come back and would highly recommend!
