Staying at Elm places you in the perfect position to explore the Forest of Dean, one of England’s most beautiful natural landscapes. Known for its ancient woodlands, wildlife, and outdoor activities, the area offers something for every interest and pace of holiday. Nature lovers will enjoy the many walking and cycling trails that weave through the forest, such as the Sculpture Trail, which combines woodland walks with striking outdoor artworks. Puzzle wood, a magical ancient woodland said to have inspired Tolkien’s Middle-earth, is just a short drive away and is a must-visit for its winding paths, caves, and moss-covered trees. For those with a love of adventure, the Forest of Dean provides opportunities for kayaking or canoeing on the River Wye, as well as climbing, zip-lining, and mountain biking at Cannop Cycle Centre.

Symonds Yat, with its dramatic viewpoint overlooking the Wye Valley, is popular for birdwatching—peregrine falcons are often seen here—and offers excellent riverside pubs and eateries. History enthusiasts can explore nearby Tintern Abbey, a breathtaking Gothic ruin, or delve into local heritage at Clearwell Caves. The charming market towns of Lydney and Coleford are close by, offering shops, cafés, and traditional pubs. Whether you’re seeking tranquillity among ancient trees, a taste of history, or adrenaline-filled outdoor pursuits, Aylburton and the wider Forest of Dean provide an unforgettable backdrop for your stay at Oak.

A lovely property with a helpful owner in a wonderful location.Close to a great pub, with easy access to lots of places by car and with a nearby railway station (with free parking!) for daytrips to Gloucester, Cardiff and further a field.Couldn't of asked for more, we will be returning at some point :-)

Great cottage. Clean, comfortable and well organised. Lovely quiet location. Great for visiting forest of dean attractions. Would highly recommend.

The cottage had everything we needed with excellent views and the added security of the gated entrance . Harley, St Bernard loved running about with the owner's dog. Added bonus was the separate paddock for dogs and the facilities to wash your dog. Enjoyed food at the Cross pub down the hill from the cottage and loved the walks in the Forest of Dean and Chepstow Castle.Would recommend staying again.
