About this property

The Nook is situated on the outskirts of the village of Sheepscombe, Gloucestershire in a beautiful wooded valley, much of which is a designated SSSI, and features in Laurie Lee’s famous ‘Cider with Rosie’. This luxurious cottage boasts off-road parking for two cars, a spacious, front gravelled garden with seating, breath-taking views of the countryside and has wooden accents and beams woven throughout: the perfect setting for a family holiday to the Cotswolds. After exploring the many walks from the front door, settle down in the snug or living/dining room both boasting homely woodburning stoves and TVs and the latter has wonderful floor to ceiling windows looking out over the panoramic countryside. Prepare dinner in the fully-equipped, country style kitchen with AGA and tuck in at the dining table before stepping outside to soak up the last of the sun in the rear garden. When sleep calls, climb the stairs to the first floor where a double with en-suite shower room and twin await, this floor is completed by a sleek bathroom with freestanding bath, perfect for a soothing soak. The Nook lies a short walk from the Butchers Arms which serves locally sourced produce. The village of Painswick with its Rococo Gardens and famous churchyard lies 2 miles away, and the town of Stroud with its many quirky shops and award winning farmers market is 4 miles away. The festival town of Cheltenham, and the Cities of Gloucester and Bath are within easy reach, and for birdwatchers WWT Slimbridge is 16 miles away. The Nook is perfectly located for exploring the wonders of the Cotswolds.

Located just 10 miles from Cheltenham, the town and civil parish of Painswick serves as an integral part of the county of Gloucestershire. Once prosperous due to its wool trade, the town is now more well-known for the yew trees in its parish church and the Rococo Garden in its centre. Cotswold Stone, found in the area, was used extensively in the construction of the village. It is located in the middle of the Cotswolds Way National Trail on a hill overlooking one of the Five Valleys in the Stroud area. It has a popular golf course on the outskirts of town and is home to a cricket and rugby team. The Royal Oak is a local watering hole known for its traditional fare, homely fireplaces, and outdoor courtyard. The village store is located directly across from the bar. The Painswick Beacon is only a twenty-minute stroll from the centre of the village, and it offers breath-taking panoramas of Gloucester, the River Severn, and the Malvern Hills. The Painswick Centre is home to the ACP Gallery, among other events and exhibitions. Laurie Lee, author of "Cider with Rosie," grew up in the town of Slad, located two miles to the northwest of Painswick.

The best ever, welcome pack. The views are amazing. We met John when we arrived, as we found, finding the cottage, a little difficult, but he directed us and we never had a problem after that, such a lovely man and so very helpful. We got to visit Oxford, Gloucester, Cirencester, Upper and Lower Slaughter, Stow on the Wold ,Broadway and Boughton on the water, every one was beautiful but we loved Oxford, the history of that area is pretty outstanding.

We loved the view from lounge/dining room, it was stunning and equally so from the garden. The cottage was clean, well equipped and warm and cosy. A great retreat after exploring the many surrounding walks/woodland areas straight on foot from the front door. The area has lots lovely places to visit and the local pub, The Butchers Arms really was such a great pub to visit. Thanks to John for his helpful, friendly welcome and and the treats left for our stay, they were just lovely. All in all The Nook made our 1st Christmas away very special and we will treasure the memories made in this beautiful cottage for some time to come.
