The Coach House in Hawling is a well-appointed property praised for its peaceful location and personal touches like a breakfast hamper and fresh towels. Guests appreciate its cleanliness, comfort, and the thoughtful welcome provided by the housekeeper. While some guests noted issues with cleanliness and maintenance, the overall sentiment is positive, with many expressing a desire to return.
Most guests found the property clean and well-maintained, though there were a few mentions of areas needing improvement, such as kitchen counters and sofas. The feedback suggests a generally high standard of cleanliness with room for some enhancement.
The location is consistently praised for its beauty and tranquillity, with guests loving the rural setting and proximity to Cotswold villages. It is described as idyllic and perfect for exploring the surrounding countryside.
The property is generally regarded as comfortable, with cosy beds and a homely feel. However, some guests mentioned issues with small beds and a lack of support in the shower for elderly guests, suggesting room for improvement in comfort for all visitors.
Facilities are well-received, with mentions of a well-equipped kitchen and lovely outside seating area. Criticisms include slow internet, lack of instructions for appliances, and some maintenance issues like the need for more toilet rolls and cleaner sofas.
Guests often mention the thoughtful touches, such as the welcome hamper and toiletries. However, it's important to note that while these gestures are appreciated, they are not guaranteed for every stay.
The idyllic setting of the Coach House is very special, nestled in the grounds of the Grade II listed, 16th century Old Rectory, within the unspoilt village of Hawling, with stunning views from the highest point of the Cotswolds. With three bedrooms, Coach House is a perfect choice for family gatherings, or for friends exploring the charms of the Cotswolds.
This charming, detached, former coach house dates back to the 14th century and has been sympathetically renovated, ensuring original features can still be enjoyed, including exposed beams, a stone fireplace and external barn doors.
The sociable living accommodation includes a spacious dining kitchen with french doors out to the terrace and garden, and leads up a couple of steps to the inviting sitting room with its cosy open fire. A small double bedroom is also located on the ground floor, along with a shower room and separate cloakroom/WC. Upstairs, a king-size bedroom and a pretty twin room have use of the family bathroom. Breath-taking views over meadows to distant fields below can be enjoyed from the house and gardens.
Outside, the terrace provides garden furniture for alfresco dining whilst enjoying views of the delightful, mature and generous surrounding gardens and fields. The adjoining field has a soothing pond, perfect for picnics or quiet contemplation. Within the gardens are various spots to sit and enjoy the planting and terraced trees, and a sculptured sphere adds to sense of grandeur; or escape to the fun shepherd's hut with a good book and a glass of wine (access to the inside of the shepherds hut by special arrangement with the owner).
It would be very easy to stay put within the grounds of this glorious Cotswold retreat, but further delights await nearby. A short drive away you will find the picturesque village of Guiting Power, which boasts a village shop, bakery and two village pubs. Just under 7 miles away is family friendly Bourton-on-the-Water (known as the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'); and charming Stow-on-the-Wold and cosmopolitan Cheltenham are less than 10 miles away.
