The Coach House @ The Old Rectory in Chard is a well-received holiday cottage, praised for its cosy ambiance, cleanliness, and thoughtful touches like welcome packs. Guests enjoy the beautiful, peaceful location and the proximity to local attractions. The cottage's well-equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge are highlights, alongside the unique feature of baths in bedrooms. While some guests mention the low beds and steep staircase, the overall experience is one of relaxation and charm.
Guests consistently describe the cottage as 'spotlessly clean', indicating a high standard of cleanliness throughout the property.
The location is appreciated for its beauty and tranquility, with easy access to country walks, the coast, and local amenities, though some guests desired closer proximity to pubs and shops.
The cottage is generally regarded as comfortable and cosy, especially with the woodburner stove. However, some guests found the low beds and restricted headspace upstairs to be a discomfort.
Facilities are well-regarded, with a fully equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area. The presence of baths in bedrooms is a unique feature. A mention of a mattress needing replacement prevents a perfect score.
The hosts are commended for their thoughtfulness, providing welcome packs and being accommodating. While gifts like wine are mentioned, it should be noted that such offerings are subject to change and not guaranteed.

The Coach House @ The Old Rectory is perfect for a romantic getaway for couples, lying in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the Blackdown Hills, between Chard in the south and Taunton in the north. Formerly an Edwardian Coaching House built to house the horses of Reverend Lance in 1905 and set in the grounds of The Old Rectory and the owner’s home. It has been lovingly restored into a cosy two bedroomed cottage. It is stylish, with many original features retained, yet it offers all the modern creature comforts, such as a well-equipped kitchen with granite worktops, and a lovely raised mezzanine living area which resembles an original horse loose box and accommodates the original hay and water feeder. You can relax in style in one of the beautiful roll-top baths that both bedrooms boast. When not enjoying the beautiful cottage, countryside and surroundings, this location is ideal for walking or simply taking in the wildlife and scenery, with much to enjoy within easy driving. There are many historic houses in the area, such as Montacute House and Gardens, Forde Abbey and Gardens, Barrington Court and Hestercombe Gardens, or, guests can drive to Glastonbury Tor for an exhilarating walk to the top with some magnificent views of Somerset, perhaps calling in at The Clarkes Factory Village, Wells Cathedral and Palace. The Quantocks and Exmoor National Park are within easy driving and for a trip back in time, travel from Taunton along the West Somerset Steam Railway to Minehead. Going south, visit West Dorset and Devon, maybe spending a day or two exploring the World Heritage Jurassic coastal resorts of Sidmouth, Seaton and Lyme Regis. The county town of Taunton is also well worth a visit, with its many shops, restaurants and places of interest. Beach 15 miles. Shop 6 miles, pub and restaurant 1 mile. Please note: There are open stairs at the property and sloping ceilings in both bedrooms.
There are open, steep, spiral or narrow stairs at the property.
The owner lives on-site/nearby.
There are low ceilings, doors and/or beams within the property.

We had a great few days in this delightful, well appointed, cosy cottage. It's in a beautiful location in the grounds of the old rectory, great for exploring the surrounding area.

Cottage was beautiful and had everything that we needed for the weekend. Baths in the bedrooms were lovely too. Welcome pack was greatly appreciated and such a nice touch, the wine already chilled would have been outstanding after a long drive though. Just a short walk to the local Italian restaurant which was also lovely, food was amazing and staff were very friendly. Our hosts were great and even offered a spider removal service lol. I would definitely recommend the cottage to anyone looking for a totally relaxing break.
