Snuggle up in the king-size bedroom, a stylish space with pretty furniture to store all of your belongings. Brixham is a coastal town with a selection of pubs, eateries and a convenience store, so guest can enjoy a romantic meal for two and stock up on essentials before heading out to explore. The town also houses a golf course, where you can try out a game or two, and the stunning Broadsands Beach, ideal for a wild swim or a sunbathe on the sand, and here you will also find a watersports centre for a more action-packed afternoon in the sunshine. From here, enjoy the beautiful coastal trails that make the most of the incredible Devon coast, passing spectacular locations such as the pretty Elberry Cove and The Dragon’s Tail. Head over Paignton where you will find Paignton Zoo Environmental Park, Paignton Pier and Preston Sands, or visit Dartmouth where there is a fantastic castle, a marina, a museum and riverside walks. The property is also within reach of the Dartmoor National Park where there are many stunning walks amongst the scenery. For a couple’s retreat to Devon, pick Turnpike Lodge.

Brixham is a working fishing harbour located on the southern side of Torbay, the area known as The English Riviera, famed for its sunny mild climate all year round. The focal point of the harbour is a life size replica of The Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake’s ship. The prettiest part of Brixham has small cottages in hilly narrow winding lanes leading to the harbour where all the activity is centred. Home to Britain’s largest fishing fleet which regularly lands their catch in the harbour, Brixham fish market sells to major restaurants in the UK. Brixham is the ideal destination for a traditional holiday with many family attractions around Torbay including two Blue Flag beaches, Paignton Zoo and many regattas and maritime events throughout the year. There are a host of safe cycle trails in the area, the South West Coastal Path and some of the best golf courses in the region. A good mix of relaxation or action, to suit all ages, where you are never far from the sea.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Turnpike Lodge. We met both the owners Ivor and Dee they are a lovely couple. Spoke to Ivor almost every day. He told us a little history of the actual turnpike they live in. The location of the lodge is quite central and perfect for exploring Devon. We will definitely be back to stay again in the future to further more explore that part of the country.
