Private parking for 2 cars. No smoking.. Tollgate Cottage is a beautiful, detached single level property enviably located on the edge of the Blythburgh Estuary. It is tucked away alongside the A12 which runs the length of the Suffolk Heritage Coast making it the ideal spot for those wishing to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. In the village you will find a popular pub and walks including those by the famous church. The legend of the Black Shuck, a ghostly black dog, dates back to 1577 and has been immortalised in songs and folk legend. The church itself is an incredible structure, overlooking the Blyth Valley.
Public transport is superb here and you can get into the ever popular Southwold to enjoy all the quintessential town has to offer with ease. From its independent shops, brightly coloured beach huts and traditional pier, it’s easy to see why this coastal town is a holiday hot spot all year round. Walberswick is also an excellent must see during your visit. Crabbing here is the sport of choice and it will keep kids entertained all day. All you need is a line, a bucket and bacon (we hear smoked bacon is the preferred kind!).
This is also a dog friendly area with endless woodland and beach walks. A trip to Dunwich and the woods are highly recommended. With a much needed pub at the end of the route this is a destination ideal for both summer and winter getaways. RSPB Minsmere is also close by with incredible sighting of rare species reported by birdwatchers. Beach 3 miles. Shop 2 miles, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

This cottage backs onto a busy road. In the heatwave the noise was very intrusive. This is fine if you stay here and are out all day every day or visit during cold weather BUT even with doors and windows closed it is noisy and when lorries drive by the bedroom radiator vibrated.The cottage was very clean (wouldn't know doggies ever stayed here) and was well equipped for cooking etc. Outdoor chairs were awful but we had brought our own. Sounds a bit petty but as my husband fell 2nd day we had no choice but remain there for the week.This cottage was very close to the river and so conveniently placed for Southwold and the nearby beaches and our family really enjoyed their stay and I dont want to put people off or be negative about the property as it was only the proximity to A12 that was an issue.

This is a fantastic, comfortable cottage. Very clean and warm with a lovely enclosed garden good for dogs and children. The cottage had everything you could possibly need and the gifts for us and the dogs was really lovely. We visited Southwold and Walberswick which were both very easy to get to, and the pub next door! Next time we book the cottage we will hopefully stay longer and do some more walks. The cottage is pleasant and very clean. Had we researched a bit more we would have noticed it backed on to the A12 and it was quite noisy. There are beautiful walks along the estuary right from the doorstep and a very conveniently located pub a minute up the lane. The surrounding area is gorgeous and we did some great walks. We were disappointed with the garden, it was very overgrown and the garden furniture needed a good clean, and in some cases replacing. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
