About this property

Hidden away on the Derbyshire/ Staffordshire border nestles this pretty stone-fronted property, Sycamore Cottage. Inside, a well-fitted kitchen provides all the essentials for a self-catered stay and the dining room offers a delightful space to enjoy meals prepared by the designated chef; after tucking into a feast, retreat to the plush sitting room to enjoy a film or two in front of the woodburning stove. Just a short distance from the cottage is Ashbourne, a picturesque town, located just south of the Peak District Park, with its array of stunning attractions and amenities to offer, as well as breath taking views of the natural landscape, it is a wonderful destination to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Just a stone's throw away lies lIam Park, and the limestone structure Reynard's Cave, which is situated on the east bank of the gorge of Dovedale, home to the iconic stepping stones. Thrill seekers can spend an extraordinary day riding rollercoasters at Alton Towers Resort, or take a day trip to The Trentham Estate, home to its very own Monkey Forest and Treetop Adventures.

Peak Wildlife Park, Rudyard Lake, Chatsworth House, Bakewell and Buxton are also within easy reach of the cottage as is the market town of Leek, home to speciality producers of condiments, confectionary, wines, and craft beers, you can source everything you need to compliment your stay. Ashbourne, which is located at the southernmost point of the Peak District, is the epitome of an English market town, complete with a market place with stalls, an odd street layout, winding cobblestone lanes, coaching inns, and almshouses. The town was a sophisticated social hub during its prime in the 18th century, and many lovely Georgian structures from this period still stand today. The town is still known as something of a sanctuary for antique hunters today and still has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants and inns, but don't expect a deal! The Dove and Manifold Valleys are nearby for those who prefer more outdoor activities, while Alton Towers, with its thrilling collection of thrills and attractions, is only a short drive away for thrill seekers.

Sycamore cottage is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location. As soon as we arrived the cottage felt warm and homely. The day we arrived was at the height of storm Darragh, the owner gave us an early check-in which allowed us to miss the worst of the weather for our journey. The owner (Ellie) met us shortly after arrival and gave us a warm and friendly welcome. The cottage has good WiFi, a great hot tub, a cosy log burner (extra to the central heating), great views over the surrounding countryside, great local farm shops. I could go on but in summary we loved it, didn't want to leave, and can't wait to go back. Thanks again Matt & Ellie
