Guests say

Castle Cottage in Craven Arms, Shropshire, is highly praised for its warmth, cosiness, and cleanliness. Guests appreciate the friendly village atmosphere, the proximity to walks and local amenities, and the well-equipped, homely feel of the cottage. While some mention challenges with the Stanley range and road noise, these are minor compared to the overall positive experiences, with many looking forward to returning.

Reviews consistently mention that the cottage is very clean and tidy, indicating high standards of cleanliness that contribute to the overall positive experience of the guests.

The location is generally appreciated for its proximity to local walks, the village, and amenities. However, a few guests noted traffic noise, which slightly impacts the score.

Guests find the cottage comfortable, with special mentions of a large comfortable bed and a cosy atmosphere. Some minor issues with radiators and the range cooker are noted but do not significantly detract from the comfort.

The cottage is well-equipped and homely, with a well-stocked kitchen and a lovely bathroom. Some guests faced challenges with the Stanley range and suggested improvements for the patio and parking, which affects the score.

While guests mention a welcoming touch with a present and a Christmas card, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful gestures across reviews to provide a score. It should be noted that such gifts are not guaranteed.

About this property

This lovely mid-terrace cottage is situated just a couple of minutes’ walk from the centre of the charming Shropshire village of Clun, just seven miles from Bishop’s Castle. The cottage dates from the late 18th century and is full of wonderful period features. Enter directly into the beamed sitting room with its large inglenook fireplace boasting a fabulous woodburning stove. Take a couple of steps down into the kitchen which has a feature stone wall, a stone flagged floor and a Stanley oil range which also powers the heating in the cottage. To the back of the sitting room is a beautifully designed bathroom with stone walls, quarry tiles and a rain shower which sits over the centrally positioned freestanding bath.

Climb the steep and winding cottage stairs to access the two bedrooms, one of which has a feature fireplace, wooden floors and a superb pine double bed which is guaranteed to provide a good night’s sleep. To the rear of the cottage is a small paved patio area where you can relax with a cup of coffee as you plan the day’s activities. Clun is a delightful Shropshire village which sits on the River Clun. It is a very important historic village due to its position on the Shropshire/Welsh border and it is home to the ruins of a Norman castle, a Saxon church and a 14th century bridge.

Today, Clun is a popular location for walkers and cyclists and has a couple of pubs and a fine selection of independent shops. Within short drives are a number of wonderful Shropshire towns including Bishop’s Castle and Knighton. The medieval town of Ludlow is just a half hour’s drive and is well known for its culinary heritage with a wide selection of renowned restaurants, tea rooms and independent food stores. A beautiful terraced cottage with plenty of period features in the picturesque Shropshire village of Clun.

I have stayed several times and will do so again.

It is a cosy, if quirky, cottage in a fab location for walks / runs and then the odd meal in the dog friendly pub. The bed, with its down duvet and pillow was super comfortable. It took as a little while to refamiliarise ourselves with Stanley, for cooking, but we got there.
