Nestled within the rural village of Bretforton, which is often referred to as the 'gem in the Vale', is Rose Cottage, a quaint semi-detached, Grade II listed thatched cottage offering an exceptional self-catering holiday to this part of Worcestershire for families of five. The cottage rests next door to the imposing Church of St Leonard and lies opposite the village square, making a charming place to temporarily call home. Inside, the exposed beams and original stone floor within the sitting room gives an immediate sense of the history of this property and the charming inglenook fireplace offers a striking focal point to admire.
Tradition is balanced by the plush seating arrangement and TV, where you can curl up after an action-packed day to catch up on the latest box set with the open fire gently filling the room with warmth and setting the ambiance. Move through the property to discover the dining room, where the exposed beams frame the seating for five and the feature fireplace offers a sense of character as you tuck into a home-cooked dish or pop open a bottle of fizz to toast to a wonderful holiday. Another archway leads you into the country-style kitchen, where a Rangemaster takes centre stage before all of the quality appliances, which are sure to encourage a spot of home cooking.
When sleep calls, take the winding staircase to the first floor to find the first of the three bedrooms, boasting a king-size, beautifully furnished and complemented by exposed wall beams and good storage space. Bedroom two consists of another king-size bed with plenty of space to prepare for each day and bedroom 3 is a pretty, spacious single room which overlooks the pretty church next door. Concluding the interior is a sleek shower room and a separate bathroom, where after a day of bracing the countryside, run yourself a bath and gaze up at the stars from the overhead Velux window.
To the exterior, the garden has been designed as an extension of the house itself, where you can enjoy a spot of alfresco dining on sunny afternoons, with the gas barbecue cooking up something tasty as you enjoy the company of your family and friends. Meander the village centre, where you will find the 600-year old village inn 'The Fleece Inn' owned by the National Trust and the community shop, where you can pick up all the essentials, alternatively, you could travel to the nearby village of Broadway, where you will find a plethora of places to eat and drink, as well as shops.
Also within striking distance of the cottage is All Things Wild, a superb zoo where you can meet farm animals, lemurs, camels and more, or brush up on the local history by visiting the National Trust owned Middle Littleton Tithe Barn and Hidecote. An afternoon can also be spent in the bustling market town of Evesham, where you can enjoy picnics in the park after a day of shopping or hop on board the Evesham Vale Light Railway to soak up the scenery of the surrounding countryside at a leisurely place. Those feeling active will find a plethora of walking opportunities in the Cotswolds AONB or you could travel further afield to spend the day in Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of William Shakespeare.
