We chose the cottage predominantly because of the open fireplace & bought a car load of wood but having access to a log store when we ran out was a major bonus. The thermostat is in the lounge area which, when using the log burner, meant that the heating switched off; so upstairs was often cold, maybe reciting it to the kitchen would help. The lack of access to a washing machine & no TV in the master bedroom were the facilities we missed the most. Luckily the local pub was opened during our stay so we had chance to meet the very friendly locals who helped direct us to some good areas to walk when the weather wasn't any good. Would we like to go back - yes but probably without our little man & only assuming the local pub is open.

The bed was very comfortable, the log burner was amazing, and the area so quiet that we had a truly restful stay.

it needs some more kitchen equipment if you plan to ‘cook’ like Tupperware, better sharp knives etc. Beds were AMAZING! Lovely bed linen etc. the TV wasn’t great BUT the owners went out and got us a new one so I can now confirm it has Netflix for those who have an acc to log in to, very kind people. The pub down the road is essentially closed. It’s for sale and the locals are trying to buy it so it was open for a few hours on the Friday and Saturday night. Sadly no food but understandable. Log burner amazing and a supply of wood for 2 fires. We had a lovely time and would love to return. Be aware though that Sykes Cottages don’t let you in until 4pm and you have to be out by 10am but you are expected to ‘clean’ it and strip beds before departure. We had to leave early due to my friends mother suddenly passing away and although we were told it ‘should’ be ok to leave it the worry of taking £100 off my card was something we didn’t want to risk so made sure it was all perfect which we could of done without to be honest. I’ve never stayed in cottages where you are expected to clean to the standard it is when you arrive and strip beds. Not sure exactly what the housekeepers role is. The cottage wasn’t cheap but as it’s been completely refurbished so that’s understandable it’s just shame we had the to do so much before we could leave. No issues with the cottage, highly recommend it and the lovely owners.
