About this property

Franbols Cottage is a welcoming terraced holiday home tucked away in the friendly village of Shelf, West Yorkshire, offering a relaxed and comfortable base for couples, friends, or small families. Set in a traditional village setting, this is the sort of place that suits slow mornings, gentle exploring, and evenings spent unwinding after a day out discovering the region. Step inside and you’ll find a practical, well-laid-out interior that feels easy to settle into straight away. The kitchen is thoughtfully equipped with everything needed for home cooking, whether that’s a quick breakfast before heading out or a proper evening meal enjoyed together.

From here, the living and dining area invites you to put your feet up, with comfortable seating, an electric fire, and space to dine, chat, or catch up on a favourite programme once the day winds down. Upstairs, two well-presented bedrooms provide restful spaces at the end of the day. One double benefits from its own en-suite shower room, offering a welcome bit of privacy, while the second bedroom is served by a family bathroom with a bath, ideal for a long soak after a day of walking or sightseeing. Thoughtful touches throughout make the house feel cared for rather than showy, with comfort very much the focus.

Outside, the enclosed rear courtyard is a handy little retreat, perfect for a morning coffee, a quiet read, or an evening drink in the open air. Roadside parking is available nearby, and families will appreciate the inclusion of a highchair and travel cot, while one well-behaved dog is also welcome to join the trip. Shelf itself has a welcoming, local feel, with village shops and a pub easily reached on foot. Beyond the village, Halifax offers impressive architecture, independent shops, and cultural attractions, while Bradford’s museums and theatres make for a rewarding day out. Piece Hall in Halifax is a stunning Georgian building dating back to 1779, once a cloth hall for trading wool, it’s now a vibrant cultural hub with independent shops, cafés, and regular events in its impressive open-air courtyard.

Shibden Hall, also in Halifax, is a Tudor manor famous as the home of Anne Lister, surrounded by beautiful gardens and parkland, it offers a fascinating glimpse into her life and history, with period rooms and exhibits inside. A little further afield, Skipton opens the door to the Yorkshire Dales, with scenic walks, historic streets, and its much-loved castle. Franbols Cottage provides a relaxed, well-located base for enjoying the best of West Yorkshire, whether you’re here to explore, unwind, or simply slow the pace for a while.

Nestled between the market town of Halifax and the city of Bradford you will find the charming village of Shelf. Located just a brief drive north of the brilliant Peak District National Park, the village rests along the Calderdale Way, best known for featuring in the Domesday Book, and was also a key settlement during the Industrial Revolution. In Shelf, you will find convenience stores within easy reach, as well as a Lidl supermarket, along with a wealth of pubs and restaurants, which include The Bottomleys Arms, Duke of York, the Prince Of Orange Inn, and Denmans Restaurant. The tranquil stretches of Blackshaw and Wood Fall Beck thread through the village, whilst a collection of green spaces such as the Dog field and Shelf Hall Park offer visitors opportunities for dog walks and picnicking. For a full day out, the Peak District National Park is within easy driving distance, home to the noteworthy landmarks and attractions of Kinder Downfall, Brown Knoll, Bakewell Bridge, Froggatt Edge, and the National Trust spot of Dark Peak.
