Guests say

Sandywood is a well-received cottage, praised for its beautiful location, cleanliness, and warm welcome from the owner. Guests appreciate the proximity to walking routes, lovely views, and the enclosed garden for pets. While the cottage is cosy and characterful, some guests suggest updates to lounge furniture and kitchen amenities.

The cottage is consistently described as spotlessly clean, with no negative comments on cleanliness, indicating high standards are maintained.

The location is highly praised for its picturesque setting, proximity to walking routes, and lovely views, making it an ideal base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales.

Overall, the cottage is considered warm and cosy. However, several reviews mention that the lounge furniture, particularly the sofas, are tired and uncomfortable, which impacts the comfort score.

Facilities are generally good, but some guests suggest the kitchen could be better equipped and the lounge furniture updated. There are also mentions of a lack of instructions for Wi-Fi and waste disposal.

While guests mention a warm welcome and a friendly owner, there are no specific references to gifts or extra thoughtful touches in the reviews provided, so it is not possible to score this category.

About this property

A traditional detached cottage in an idyllic hillside position on the outskirts of the delightful village of Burnsall, with uninterrupted views of Burnsall Fell. Originally a farm worker's cottage, the property has been fully renovated to provide warm, cosy accommodation with immense character and charm, retaining many original features such as the stone fireplace, oak beams and mullion windows. The lovely enclosed garden provides an excellent spot for alfresco dining, whilst just a short walk away is an award-winning pub, serving real ales and fabulous food. Enjoy good walking and cycling from the doorstep, or explore Bolton Abbey and the infamous Strid, a notorious stretch of deep water where the River Wharfe is forced into a deep, thundering channel. The elegant market town of Grassington, with its cobbled square littered with local shops, pubs and cafes is just 5 miles away, making this an ideal location, to be enjoyed whatever the time of year.

Situated in Wharfedale, the village of Burnsall is set on a bend in the River Wharfe and is perfectly framed by the dramatic backdrop of Burnsall Fell. Full of traditional constructions, the 12th Century church is thought to be the oldest building in the village whilst the school is one of the oldest in the country. Burnsall's most famous feature, however, is probably the stone bridge supported by five arches. With a small shop selling sweets and ice-cream as well as a pub and hotel and a tea-room, the village provides most amenities that visitors will need. Nearby Grassington and Skipton offer a wider selection of shops for anything extra visitors may need. The area is the setting for numerous popular cycling trails and bridleways, making this an excellent holiday destination for walkers and those looking to explore this beautiful region.

It is an old, traditional country cottage set in a quiet location but close enough to the village to walk to the pub. It had everything we needed and was warm and cosy. Bigger than it looked on the photos. We could go on lovely walks from the doorstep The host Helen popped in to see us to make sure we knew what to do and to answer any questions. Altogether a top quality place to stay

If you're looking for great walks or cycling any time of the year this is perfect. It is a great place to have a retreat with wonderful views, valleys and a superb Riverwalk we were greeted by the host Who was delightful and this family run business really deliver.

Despite the less than clement weather (Storm Henk) over the New Year we still got out everyday, with fabulous walking from the door, and the layout of the cottage was perfect for getting off soaking kit and drying Riley the dog in the large utility room before entering the main house; the excellent heating system being perfect for drying everything out ready for the next days adventures. Despite of, or perhaps because of, the very wet weather, it was always a pleasure to return to the cottage in the evening, cook dinner, settle in front of the log burner, and then retire to the very comfortable beds. It would have been lovely to sit outside and enjoy the garden and views, Perfect for a Summers day!
