Guests say

Dales Retreat is a centrally located cottage in Skipton, praised for its peacefulness despite its proximity to local amenities. Guests appreciate the comfortable beds and the generous welcome basket, although some noted the need for heavier blinds. The property's central location is a highlight, offering easy access to the town's attractions.

The cottage is generally comfortable, but there were instances of cleaning issues such as a heavy mirror with dead moths behind it and chewing gum found under a bedside table. These seem to be isolated incidents, as other reviews do not mention cleanliness as a concern.

The location is highly praised for being central, quiet, and convenient, with easy access to Skipton's town center, pubs, restaurants, and shops. The proximity to a long-stay car park is also noted, despite the lack of on-site parking.

Guests find the beds extremely comfortable and the property spacious. However, some guests mentioned the need for heavier blinds in the bedrooms to block out early morning light.

While the property is appreciated for its layout and furniture, there are several comments about inadequate kitchenware, such as small pans and a lack of cutlery, which could hinder self-catering. Maintenance issues like a cracked ceiling, flaking paint, and a shower in need of repair were also mentioned.

The welcome basket was mentioned positively in some reviews, indicating thoughtfulness. However, it should be noted that not all guests reported receiving this, and it may not be guaranteed.

I will commence with a number of observations that in my opinion people should be aware of. Firstly as advertised there is no parking but we found that the Canal long stay car park was the best. Make sure you consider the weekly pass as it works out cheaper if you are staying 3 or mire days. The location is right behind a witherspoon pub but I have to say we didn't hear any noise from the pub even though it was busy. The garden area was overgrown and it was difficult for us to use the seating due to bushes overhanging the seating area. The website stated you get a welcome pack, like other users we did not got one ( false representation in the advert, who knows but if its promised then it should be there. We attended as a family of 6 and the pans and some cutlery were totally inadequate for our needs - good job we read other reviews and took our own, without them I think we could have struggled. The property has had a leak from the bathroom at some point and the ceiling above the dining area was cracked, had paint flaking and really in need of a proper repair. In addition the shower was hanging off the wall , not something I would expect from a cottage marketed as Luxury. Previous comments also mentioned the blinds being thin, I agree and if you are in the back bedroom the lights from witherspoon bin area do light up the room. The decor is in need of some TLC, in one front bedroom the skirting board was hanging off, the bathroom had door architrave missing and in one bedroom the electrical socket was loose and off the wall- not good if you have children with an inquisitive mindset. Likewise there is a very large and heavy mirror propped against the wall in one of the rooms which when I looked to see if it could be see dead moths. We needed to move a bedside table only to find a number of chewing gum balls underneath. Overall the cottage offers a little but they really need to spend some money and improve this if they want to advertise it as luxury. In case im challenged on another of the above points I took photos- overall none of the above spoilt our break but the owners really need to get there act together if they want to market this as Luxury, in my opinion its OK but not luxury

There is much to recommend the cottage. Careful thought has been given to choice of furniture, decor and luxury touches. Its location is excellent and despite being in the centre of the town, very peaceful. It was advertised as self catering and also mentioned a 'welcome pack' which we did not receive. The main issue is regarding the 'self catering ' provision which was poor. The owners need to realise that some holiday makers need to cook rather than microwave reheating because of nutritional needs. There was a lack of equipment to enable this, eg. no colander, small pans which were the worse for wear, no baking trays and very few pieces of cutlery. Many suggestions have been made by previous visitors ( eg the thin bedroom blinds) but nothing has changed. We would hope that the owners can find the time to make these small improvements to enable a truly 'luxury' holiday rental.
