About this property

Miss Burrow's House, is a traditional Yorkshire Dales cottage nestled in a quiet location with open countryside views on the outskirts of the quaint market town of Hawes, North Yorkshire. Within easy walking distance (10mins) of Hawes market square, this newly renovated house built in the early 1800’s offers a cozy traditional feel and retains many of the original Victorian features. The house is well-known locally as the home of Hawes primary school teacher Miss Burrow, who was born in the house and resided there for most of her 105 years.

This pet-friendly haven offers the perfect escape for couples, families, and friends alike, with excellent amenities nearby and a great choice for those looking to explore the local and wider Yorkshire Dales area. If you're a keen chef, you will no doubt be delighted by the fully-equipped kitchen, with its ample appliances and dining room with a woodburning stove, perfect for cooking up a storm and enjoying a delicious meal with your friends and family, whatever the time of year. Outside, the enclosed garden is a great spot for alfresco dining, with its patio, furniture, and charcoal barbecue for when you want to cook alfresco in the warmer months. Head upstairs to the three inviting bedrooms, each with a Smart TV, to rest for the night before waking to open views of the surrounding fells. Refresh in the bathroom when you wake and prepare to explore the area, with the choice of a bath or shower. Make the most of the incredible scenery that surrounds this idyllic location and explore the North Yorkshire Dales on two wheels or on foot with easy access to the Pennine Way and many local walks and cycle routes, including the famous Buttertubs Pass. The small scenic market town of Hawes offers a range of amenities including quaint local shops, pubs, and café’s, along with a weekly market and craft markets throughout the year. Within a short walking distance is the Dales Countryside Museum and the famous Wensleydale Creamery (home of Wallace and Gromit’s famous Wensleydale cheese). Visit the nearby village of Dent, where you can explore the ruins of Dent Castle, or take a stroll around the market town of Leyburn and its selection of quaint shops and eateries. The famous Aysgarth Falls (location of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves) and Hardraw Force (England’s highest single drop waterfall) are also close by. For more of a cultural experience, visit Sedburgh famous for its many bookshops and explore the ruins of its 12th-century castle or its selection of museums. The rest of the Yorkshire Dales National Park is just waiting to be discovered, with an array of activities to choose from, from challenging hikes to leisurely strolls, you won’t be short of things to do. For a more adventurous expedition, head further afield to the Lake District National Park and experience the great outdoors at its best, with fells, lakes, and activities in abundance, as well as a wealth of delicious eateries and pubs. No matter how you choose to spend your time, a stay at Miss Burrow's House will be one to remember.

Hawes is a popular market town in the Richmondshire district of North Yorkshire and is regarded as one of the honeypot tourist attractions of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Standing between Buttertubs and Fleet Moss, the town is an excellent centre for walking and touring Wensleydale and the adjoining dales of Swaledale, Cotterdale, Dentdale, Garsdale, Wharfedale and Chapel-le-Dale. Take a walk around the Hawes Town Trail, Millennium Walk, Pennine Way or along the River Ure, which is nearby. In 1998 Hawes was awarded the English Tourist Board Silver Award for the "Best Day Trip Out". Modern traffic has long replaced coaches and horse drawn wagons along its narrow streets, but market day (Tuesdays) in Hawes is as busy as ever, with a farmers’ auction attracting sheep farmers from all over the north of England. Traditional shops, cafés and inns now cater for a variety of Dales visitors as well as the local community. The award-winning Wensleydale Creamery, made famous by the animated Wallace and Grommit films, is now open to visitors so that they can see the famous cheese being made and sample the end product in a welcoming café. In the old station yard you will find the busy National Park Centre and Dales Countryside Museum. The Museum is home to the magnificent collection of Dales artefacts by the two great Dales historians and writers, Marie Hartley and Joan Ingilby.
