Set in the beautiful grounds of the owners’ home, these four holiday properties (E5118, E5119, E5120 and E5551) are tastefully decorated and finished to a high standard, retaining many original features. Guests have the use of the large, landscaped gardens with ponds, waterfall and river frontage, plus private fishing. The quaint village of West Burton in which these cottages are situated, nestles in the Walden Valley among the beautiful Wensleydale countryside, and is well known as one of the loveliest villages in the Dales with a large village green, market cross, Burton Force waterfall and no through traffic; it has a truly traditional feel with a shop and a pub serving food. An excellent base for touring throughout the Yorkshire Dales, with the bustling market towns of Hawes and Leyburn only 10 miles. Bolton Castle, the Black Sheep Brewery and The Wensleydale Creamery are all within easy reach. For the walker, there is easy access from the village onto open moors and fells. For family days out, don’t miss The Forbidden Corner gardens and Lightwater Valley theme park. Shop and pub serving food 500 yards.

There's lots to like about this property. It's a really spacious two bedroom apartment, with a brand new well equipped kitchen including dishwasher, new carpets and fairly new bathroom. The location within the Dales is really convenient, with roads out in all directions and lots of walks straight from the village. It's a short walk to the village where there's a pub, a shop (limited hours), a bus service, and fish and chip van that visits one evening a week. The main road to Wharfedale runs behind the property, but it's lightly used at night, and the bedrooms are on the other side of the building so it's not a problem. We saw a hare out there on Sunday morning!We were slightly put off on arrival by the scruffy courtyard and approach, also there's no information about the apartment, the extent of the garden available for use (including through the gate marked Private by the river), or local amenities. The owners were easy to contact when we needed them, but hadn't volunteered any information including that some of the ceiling lights had been knocked out by a thunderstorm and an electrician was going to come and fix them on the Monday of our stay. Having read in other reviews that the double bed was uncomfortable and creaky, we used the twin beds in the other room, pushed together (fortunately we were only two of us). Also the sofas were quite hairy, presumably from dogs, and could do with a good hoover.

My family and I, plus our Newfoundland, have just returned from a week in the Carriage House. We used the accommodation as a base to explore the local area. The kitchen photographs need updating, and the only downside to the new layout was a lack of storage space, for food goods. As previous reviews have stated, the double bed was creaky and the mattress uncomfortable. The double bed sofa proved more comfotable for sleeping on. However these points for improvement do not relegate the overall experience of staying here and we would definitely book again. The garden was fantastic for my grandson to explore. The local village is a 1/4 mile up the road, where we spent time, walking to the waterfall and onto the pub. From the house we visited Asygarth Falls, Himalayan Sculpture Gardens, Middleham Castle to name a few places. Having been to the area previously, we knew where we wanted to go. As others had complained there were no leaflets, we left some. My daughter and partner took the children to Forbidden Corner- which they all loved. Overall, we loved the time spent here, it was quiet and enabled all of us to chill and relax. My grandson lived the swallows building a nest on the wall near a window. Plenty to see and do around the area. The village has a butchers, a shop and a brilliant pub that does food.

Lovely clean cottage, well equipped and spacious. WiFi has been commented on in the odd review but owners have installed a smart tv and wifi booster so not a problem. My only criticism is the lack of local information in the flat - there's an excellent butchers in the village, great pub and Ramsays fish and chip van visits every Tuesday but no helpful leaflets to point the guest in their direction.
