The Smithy is a beautifully presented cottage in a peaceful rural setting, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped interiors. Guests consistently highlight the friendly and helpful hosts, the lovely welcome touches, and the proximity to scenic walks and an excellent local pub. The cottage is ideal for exploring the Dales and offers a relaxing escape. While most experiences were highly positive, a small number of guests noted issues with heating and WiFi, but these were exceptions. Overall, the property is highly recommended for a tranquil countryside break.
Cleanliness is repeatedly praised, with guests describing the cottage as spotlessly clean, tidy, and well-maintained throughout their stay.
The location is highly regarded for its peaceful countryside setting, beautiful views, and easy access to local attractions, walks, and a popular village pub.
Guests found the cottage very comfortable, with special mention of quality beds, linens, and a relaxing atmosphere. One review noted heating issues, but this was not a common experience.
The cottage is well-equipped with thoughtful extras, including toiletries and kitchen essentials. Some guests noted the absence of a dishwasher and WiFi, and one reported maintenance issues with heating and the fridge.
Many guests appreciated the welcome packs with milk, eggs, biscuits, and toiletries. While these thoughtful touches are frequently mentioned, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Lovely place to stay

Throughly enjoyed my stay. Friendly and helpful assistance from the owner Sue Smith whenever sort. Ample parking space and there’s an excellent pub/restaurant, the Queens Head, just a 15 minute walk away. If you have a dog there’s a couple of good walks in the village without the need travel, one of which is to the local reservoir.Only negative issue is the lack of access to the internet which I understand is to be addressed in the future. Would stay there again.

Sue was very welcoming. The Smithy was excellent, very clean, greatly equipped, you didn’t need to worry about bringing anything, down to toiletries. The smithy was very comfortable. The patio yard was great and one could catch the sun while enjoying a glass of wine. The surrounding farm was lovely with great views, the Wensleydale Railway passes at the bottom of the field. The Queens Head is a stones throw away from The Smithy, great food and they have a Cake Shed. Yummy! Would recommend this converted barn, with no hesitation. Thank you
