Guests say

Cleeve Cottage in Leyburn is praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped kitchen. Guests appreciate its quiet location, proximity to local amenities, and the delightful back garden. While some minor maintenance issues and inconsistent Wi-Fi are noted, the overall experience is positive, with many guests enjoying their stay and recommending the cottage for a relaxing break in the Yorkshire Dales.

Most guests found the cottage to be spotlessly clean, with only a few mentioning issues such as cobwebs and dusty surfaces. The high frequency of positive comments about cleanliness leads to a high score.

The location is frequently praised for being quiet, convenient, and close to local shops and pubs. The proximity to attractions and the rural setting contribute to a high score.

Guests generally found the beds comfortable and the cottage cosy, although there were some comments about a lumpy mattress and hard pillows. The majority of reviews, however, speak positively about the comfort of the cottage.

The cottage is well-equipped, especially the kitchen, but there are several mentions of maintenance issues such as creaky floorboards, a problematic toilet flush, and heating issues. These prevent a higher score.

While the reviews reflect a positive experience, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the owners. Therefore, this category cannot be scored.

About this property

A welcoming, stone link-detached cottage, set on a small estate on the outskirts of the pretty market town of Middleham. Stylish and contemporary throughout, Cleeve Cottage is a real delight with first class fittings and fixtures, offering friends and families an ideal holiday home for enjoying this popular area of the Yorkshire Dales. Featuring a comfortable sitting room with two beautiful sofas arranged around the main fireplace, which houses a characterful multi-fuel stove, this is a cosy space to put your feet up after a day of exploring the local countryside. The well-equipped kitchen/diner provides a great space to sit and enjoy an evening meal, talk about the travails of the day and prepare plans for the rest of the holiday.

The master bedroom boasts a luxurious pocket sprung king-size bed and the second bedroom contains full-size twin single beds. Although it boasts two market places, Middleham is a now really only a market town in name; the Yorkshire Dales community is better known these days for its links to The Sport of Kings – horse racing. The old town is just a short walk from your cottage, and includes excellent old pubs and local restaurants, along with a well-stocked general store. The famous ruined castle, founded as a simple moat-and-bailey structure in the 12th century, is less than half a mile away, where fantastic views stretch across Wensleydale.

The nearby villages of West Witton and East Witton boast award-winning gastropubs and both are well worth a visit. Explore nearby Bolton Castle, visit the famous Aysgarth Falls or take a ride on the Wensleydale Railway. This delightful cottage is ideal for a family or for a romantic break.

The attractive Wensleydale town of Middleham is renowned for its history and race horses. Much of the history is bound up with its Norman castle, which has a keep second in size only to the Tower of London. The pretty market square is partially cobbled and offers a range of shops, pubs and places to eat. All in all a superb base for exploring Wensleydale and all within easy driving distance of York, the North York Moors and the Yorkshire Dales and Heritage Coast.

Very convenient location for the Middleham festival. Shame it is already booked for the same time next year.

  • Paula

Lovely little garden too and convenient on-site parking. Great location for exploring many of Yorkshire's highlights. Only negative is that the information provided in the info folder was out of date - several of the places mentioned to eat in the town no longer existed. This was also true of the instructions provided for finding the cottage, with mention of a pub that no longer exists.
