Guests consistently praise its cleanliness, comfort, and thoughtful touches from the owners. The cottage is especially appreciated for its cosy atmosphere, excellent amenities, and suitability for families and dog owners. Minor suggestions include improvements to the garden fencing, some furnishings, and the upstairs shower, but these do not detract from the overwhelmingly positive experience. The property is highly recommended for a relaxing and memorable stay.

Multiple reviews highlight the cottage as spotlessly clean, tidy, and well maintained. Only one minor mention of a dated single bedroom, but no significant cleanliness issues were raised.

About this property

A quality sympathetic conversion of an old stone farm building, resulting in an individual holiday home of great character and comfort.

With an exceptionally high standard of furnishing and equipment, this cottage nestles high on the moors in a quiet National Park village above Newtondale where the steam trains whistle below.

In the 19th century, the property housed a horse driven threshing machine and more recently it became a dairy and features a unique stone fireplace, along with massive timber beams, which may have come from oaks in Newtondale or from ships broken up at Whitby.

Ecologically aware, Dairy House offers spacious accommodation over two floors with three bedrooms, a bathroom and a shower room, and provides a light and airy feel, whilst it also feels cosy in winter.

Footpaths nearby wander through wild flower pastures, beautiful woodlands and on to the moors. Cyclists can enjoy gentle meanders or challenging banks and a few miles away, Dalby Forest offers mountain biking trails for all levels.

Enjoy a steam railway ride, which takes you up the valley and across the moors to the coast - one of the most spectacular railway journeys in Britain.

A delightful cottage offering peace and tranquillity.

The unspoiled village of Newton-upon-Rawcliffe is on the southern fringe of the North York Moors National Park and is a typical English village, with old stone cottages and farms clustered around the village green and duck pond. The area has an abundance of wildlife and the countryside is varied and offers wonderful walking and touring opportunities. Amongst the many attractions in the area are the majestic abbeys of Byland and Rievaulx, the town of York and the magnificent Castle Howard. The nearby historic market town of Pickering is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, England's longest steam railway, and has a variety of shops, art galleries and eateries. With its many activities and attractions, this is a fabulous area for a family holiday.

It was great to be able to do a morning walk around the village and spot the steam train arriving and departing like clock work at Levisham station from a great view point behind the pub on the public footpath. There was also a small local playground in the village -well equipped for the youngsters. It is only a 10min short drive to Pickering and the local food shops. From Pickering ,it was a good hub to travel to Scarborough and other coastal attractions Eden Camp, National trust at Nunnington, and Ryedale Folk Museum, Hutton Le Hole village and Thornton le dale with nice icecream. It was great to have plenty of cutlery and it was a well equipped kitchen. It was enjoyable to able to have a log fire on the occasional cold April nights. We would not hesitate to book again in the future.
