About this property

This charming, stone terraced cottage is a steam-lover's dream, situated opposite the North York Moors Steam Railway terminus in the historic market town of Pickering. With all amenities on the doorstep, it is well placed for exploring the spectacular surrounding moorland scenery and within a half hour's drive of the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough. Nicely renovated to a good standard, there is a modern galley-style kitchen and a separate dining room, with a living-flame gas fire set in a Victorian fireplace. The cosy and comfortable sitting room is at the front of the property, again with a living-flame gas fire and boasting a 50" TV.

Upstairs, the two bedrooms are tastefully furnished, with quality bedding, the front bedroom looking directly out across to the railway station. To the rear of the cottage is a small, enclosed sheltered courtyard - an absolute sun trap, where guests can sit and relax with a drink and listen to the steam trains puffing into the station. A steam train trip is a must for both young and old, as it winds its way through the beautiful heather-clad moors to the small village of Grosmont. Pickering is known as the Gateway to the North York Moors, and has an excellent array of quaint tea rooms, pubs, restaurants and a twice-weekly market held in the cobbled main street.

Enjoy a visit to the Beck Isle Museum, climb up to the castle, or try your hand at trout fishing, all within five minutes' walk. Walkers and cyclists are spoilt for choice, with an abundance of public footpaths and trails in the area, including the wonderful Dalby Forest Outdoor Pursuit Centre, just a few miles away. With easy access to the rugged East Coast and many nearby family attractions, including Flamingo Land and Ryedale Folk Museum, this warm and welcoming holiday home provides an excellent choice.

This historic market town, with its full range of amenities and traditional shops, pubs and restaurants, serves as the official gateway to the beautiful North York Moors National Park. Enjoy a ride on the North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway, where Harry Potter fans can even explore some of the locations used in the filming of The Philosopher’s Stone!

Just a couple of little things would help a new kettle as it leeks badly and the fridge has no bottom shelf in door and no freezer compartment and also a information pack would be helpful with information about bins etc but apart from those little niggles we will return to hogwarts cottage next year.

great location the maintenance was poor as was cleanliness in certain area's ie cooker hood and oven needed a good clean. There were a few issues with maintenance the bathroom fan & shaving light do not work. Back gate doesn't shut which was a problem with dogs. Lighting in quite dim in places and fridge door shelf was missing so we couldn't stand milk in the door, also toilet cistern handle was loose. This was our 2nd visit in 3yrs and some of the issues stated were issues last time we stayed dated, having said all this we would return in future hoping the issues would have be rectified.
