Guests appreciate the well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, and the cottage's proximity to local amenities and attractions. Some minor feedback on furniture comfort and maintenance issues does not detract from the overall positive experience.

Guests consistently report the cottage as clean, with only a single mention of dust under a bed. The overall high standard of cleanliness is evident in the reviews.

The location is frequently highlighted as excellent, being close to village amenities and attractions. The ease of access to local sights and the quiet setting contribute to a high score, despite minor comments about signage visibility.

The cottage is generally found to be cosy and comfortable. However, several guests suggest that the living room furniture could be more comfortable, which slightly lowers the score in this category.

The thoughtfulness of the hosts is frequently mentioned, with guests appreciating the welcome pack. It is noted that such gifts, while appreciated, are not guaranteed for every stay.

About this property

Puddleduck Cottage is an endearing stone-fronted, detached dwelling, set in the chocolate-box village of Thornton-le-Dale, one mile from the popular market town of Pickering. Originally a barn, the property has been lovingly restored to a high standard and now provides a delightful single-storey holiday home for the most discerning guests, looking to tour North Yorkshre. With bags of character, there are flagged floors throughout and the open-plan living area has high pitched ceilings with the original exposed timbers, a well-equipped galley-style kitchen, and a homely sitting area. The double bedroom leads off the living room, whilst two small steps lead up to the sleek bathroom and the second family bedroom.

Comfortably furnished to a high standard, the cottage has a lovely, homely feel and will be a pleasure to come back to after a day of exploring. Outside, there is a private sunny garden to the rear of the property, where one can sit and relax with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. A short stroll along the side of the beck brings you into the centre of this most picturesque village, with an array of interesting shops, tea rooms, pubs and restaurants. There are numerous walks straight from the door, while nearby bustling Pickering hosts the terminus of the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which winds its way through heather clad moors to Grosmont and Whitby.

Local attractions include Dalby Forest, with its biking and walking tracks, Duncombe Park, Castle Howard and the pretty market town of Helmsley. With the seaside towns of Whitby and Scarborough just a short drive and the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors National Park to discover, Puddleduck Cottage provides an excellent base any time of the year.

Just two miles east of Pickering, in the Dalby Forest and North York Moors National Park, is the picturesque village of Thornton-le-Dale. This exquisite spot at the top of a lovely valley is a haven for walkers, bikers, and nature enthusiasts. Despite being 13 and 20 miles apart, Scarborough and Whitby provide all the services and amenities of two of the best coastal resorts in the nation. Around a one-hour drive from each other, York and Castle Howard provide all the history and culture a vacation might want.

Main door still sticking ( pointed the same thing out on our last visit 5/6 years ago ) so not the easiest to close and lock Banged our legs on the frame of the bed a few times as there is only a narrow walk way But this would not stop us from coming back , lovely well positioned cottage with parking outside New inn has food all week ( but decided not to do food on the Monday and as the Buck only dose Wednesday to Sunday we ended up with fish & chips ) the fox & rabbit just out of town is very good but probably best to book a table Chocolate shop is fabulous

Every need has been catered for. The owners have made a lovely comfortable and quirky holiday home which leaves you wanting for nothing….except a much longer stay. We really enjoyed our short break and will definitely return

Jane thoughtfully checked-in on us to ask if we were warm enough due to the very cold weather. The cottage was spotlessly clean and the welcome basket was well received thank you. Puddleduck has great off road parking as is perfectly placed for exploring the surrounding area. We hope to return in the new year for a third visit
