Our stay at Ellis house was mixed. The size of the property mostly worked well for a group of 8 adults. The bedrooms were all spacious with comfortable beds and nice quality linen. The lounge was small with just enough seating for us all to be in the space. We knew on booking that there was only one bathroom but with 2 other toilets we decided we could make it work. What we weren't allowing for was no hot water in either of the other toilets and the downstairs toilet having holes in the walls, no lock on the door and being filthy.I made contact with the owner about the downstairs toilet and as we were confused to only have 2 dishwasher tablets provided for our entire stay and no washing up liquid, also no soap in any of the toilets/bathroom. As there is only sufficient crockery in the property for one meal at a time, we had to wash mugs and crockery after each meal so more dishwasher tablets were needed, or at least some washing up liquid. My communication with her lasted pretty much an entire day, starting with her stating that it was common practice to only provide starter levels of cleaning supplies in rentals and that guests were then expected to get their own. I have stayed in numerous holiday rentals over the years, as well as having my own property and have never not been provided with washing up liquid or at least 2 dishwasher tablets per day of stay. She did agree that there should have been soap provided in the toilets/bathroom. Eventually, after repeated messages, it was agreed that if I purchased the items she would reimburse me as it was a bank holiday and her cleaning team were unavailable and she was not local. I do not understand why she didn't agree to this on first contact rather than after extensive communicationThe outdoor space is promoted a a relaxing space to use but it is unloved. It needed weeding, painting and the garden furniture was filthy. We had to clean the tables and chairs before use. The bins in the yard were all full to capacity and obviously hadn't been emptied in some time. We left them on the street on departure to hopefully be emptiedThe blind in the lounge was broken and the bathroom mirror was missing, both issues I informed the owner of.The welcome pack provided was basically a few teabags, some coffee, milk and sugar, plus a couple of dishwasher tablets and a tea towel. We assumed that the tea towel wasn't a gift so left it behind. It should really be called a starter pack and if no other dishwasher/washing up supplies are to be provided I feel guests should be made aware of this so they can take items with them instead of having to go to the local shop for these basic items. So as I stated at the start of the review there were some good things about the property but other things which certainly need work.

Booking was from 3pm on the arrival day. Arrived at ten past three to find the cleaners still there and not close to finishing so had to go away again. Came back an hour later to find them gone but a bag of rubbish left in the bedroom. Aside from that house was well equipped with modern decor.House is very close to sea front and the town. Parking on the road is minimal, we were there on easter holidays and managed to get parked okay but I imagine it could be different in the summer as it's probably one of the closest roads to the seafront where you can park for free. On the whole a nice stay.
