Guests say

The Retreat in Filey is highly praised for its spotless cleanliness, exceptionally well-equipped kitchen, and comfortable beds, making it a true home from home. Guests appreciate the quiet location, secure garden for dogs, and proximity to local beaches and amenities. While a few minor issues such as towel quality, oven maintenance, and limited welcome packs were noted, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests returning for repeat stays and recommending the property to others.

Cleanliness is consistently highlighted, with multiple guests describing the property as spotless, very clean, and well maintained. Only rare mentions of minor odours or maintenance issues were noted.

The location is frequently praised for its quiet setting, easy access to Filey, Scarborough, and local beaches, as well as proximity to village amenities and pubs. A single mention of the property backing onto a school was not seen as a major drawback.

Guests repeatedly mention comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and a homely atmosphere. The property is described as warm and inviting, suitable for families and those with pets. Occasional comments about towels and sofa condition were minor.

The cottage is described as extremely well equipped, especially the kitchen, with everything needed for a comfortable stay. Some guests noted minor issues such as a broken oven seal, small towels, and limited storage for food, but these did not detract significantly from the overall experience.

Some guests mentioned a welcome pack and thoughtful touches, though a few felt the welcome pack was limited or not as generous as in other properties. Please note that gifts or welcome packs are not guaranteed and may vary.

This spacious, semi-detached dormer bungalow is ideal for a coastal family getaway. Situated in a quiet residential area, in the village of Hunmanby, near Filey, the property is less than 3 miles from the beach at Primrose Valley. The property boasts a lovely conservatory overlooking the rear, enclosed garden, perfect for those travelling with children and/or pets. There are shops and pubs within walking distance, so no need to take the car. Hunmanby is located on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, where the rolling hills were the inspiration for David Hockney’s paintings. The Wolds Way walk runs nearby, a 79-mile walk through the tumbling Yorkshire hills and countryside. The Centenary Way also runs past the village, a walk that starts in York and finishes in Filey, so for those who enjoy the great outdoors, The Retreat is a great base for a walking holiday.

The seaside resort of Filey is just a few minutes drive away, and is an old fashioned, quieter resort than it’s neighbours, Scarborough and Bridlington. Filey is renowned for its large beautiful sweeping beach which has won many awards over the years. Further north there is Scarborough and Whitby as well as the North York Moors National Park. You can catch the steam trains from Pickering to Whitby, crossing over the beautiful moors and calling at Goathland, also known as the village of Aidensfield in the TV programme Heartbeat.

The property is ideally situated for visiting medieval York, a vibrant, lively city that has been voted in the top 10 cities to visit for several years. York appeals to all ages with it’s historical buildings, Jorvik Viking Centre and the Railway Museum, as well as the many leisure cruises available along the river. The rspb bird sanctuary at Bempton is just a few minutes drive away, and offers the opportunity to see puffins, kittiwakes and gannets, all perched along the chalk cliffs. Beach 2½ miles. Without doubt this beautiful bungalow was the best holiday home we have stayed in. It was a real home from home with everything you could possibly need for a weeks holiday. Anyone staying with children would be amazed at all the games and books available. Situated in a lovely quiet area a few minutes walk from shops and pubs. A ten minute car journey to a fabulous stretch of golden beach. The Piebald Inn as 52 pies on the menu. Well worth a visit.

The accommodation itself was perfect. The only disappointment is the pet restrictions that were not known until arriving at the accommodation The advert stated that it is dog friendly. What is not advertised is the fact that dogs are not allowed on the furniture or in the bedrooms. If we had known this we would not have booked itOur dog sit on the sofa on a night with us (we take our own throws to cover furniture). On a night he sleeps in his crate in our bedroom and may go on the bed in the morning (we bring his crate and our own quilt to use out of respect for others who stay). Because of these restrictions we will not be able to book again, which we would love to have done
