The Hayloft is a well-received cottage praised for its excellent location, cosy atmosphere, and beautiful sea views. Guests appreciate the property's proximity to walking paths and the peaceful environment. Artwork and decor are frequently mentioned as highlights, contributing to the cottage's charm.
Most guests found The Hayloft to be spotless and well looked after, contributing to a relaxing break. However, a few mentioned the need for a deeper clean, suggesting room for improvement.
The location is highly praised for its quietness, proximity to the coast, and accessibility to local attractions and public transport. The scenic views and easy access to walking paths like The Cleveland Way are particularly appreciated.
Guests generally find the cottage cosy and tastefully decorated, with comfortable areas to relax. Some guests, however, noted issues with furniture comfort and the inconvenience of the bedroom and bathroom being on separate floors.
The property is well-equipped for self-catering, with many guests satisfied with the amenities. However, several reviews mention problems with heating, hot water, and Wi-Fi availability, indicating that maintenance could be improved.
While guests have had pleasant stays, there is no mention of gifts or special touches that would indicate thoughtfulness from the host. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.
This lovely cottage is set in a peaceful and tranquil location, next to the owner's home, on the outskirts of Cloughton, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. This delightful cottage has been creatively converted to provide the perfect romantic hideaway for couples, yet just a few minutes’ drive from the popular coastal resort of Whitby, Robin Hood's Bay and Scarborough. Originally the end-section (Hayloft and barn) of an ancient longhouse, this charming studio-style stone cottage has cosy and quirky accommodation over two floors. Upstairs, there is a light and spacious open plan living area, with a double bed tucked up against the wall and a comfortable sofa and chair to relax in.
From the windows are superb views over the beautiful open countryside and the sea. With a lovely homely feel, there are lots of little extras, including original artwork on the walls and carved polished driftwood. On the ground floor is a bright and cheerful rustic style kitchen, with painted panelled walls and cupboards and a timber floor. Entry to the property is from the rear, across a small lawn to a flagged private patio; ideal for a morning coffee in the sunshine, before heading out for the day. From the cottage, there are excellent walking and cycling opportunities, with the 23 mile Cinder Track just down the road and the clifftop Cleveland Way trail just a few minutes’ walk away.
The seaside town of Scarborough has much to offer, with its sandy beaches, castle ruins, pretty gardens and seafront cafes and restaurants. Enjoy a lovely walk from North Bay to South Bay along the promenade, or book an evening at the renowned Stephen Joseph Theatre in the Round. With the spectacular scenery of the North York Moors to explore, plus Whitby and quaint coastal villages such as Robin Hood's Bay to visit, guests will be delighted to stay in this charming cottage at any time of the year.
Cloughton lies 4 miles north of Scarborough, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. With mainly old cottages lining the main street and more modern developments behind, the village has two pubs on the main street and one on the outskirts. Close by is the popular 'Cinder Track', the disused 23 mile long railway track, that is for walking, cycling and horse riding. There is easy access to the Cleveland Way long distance trail that hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Scarborough. Popular since Victorian times, this vibrant seaside town retains many of its original fine buildings, parks and gardens, as well as its historic castle which overlooks the town. North Bay and South Bay provide two superb stretches of beautiful, golden sandy beaches, popular with families and small children. There are a number of child friendly activities and many excellent visitor attractions for grown-ups too, including the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough Spa and Scarborough Open Air Theatre for live music. Scarborough is a great location for outdoor activities, with golf courses, lovely coastal walks along the Cleveland Way, stunning cycle routes such as the old railway to Whitby, beautiful sailing and championship quality surfing. Add to this all the usual seaside entertainment and bustling promenades located close to the beach and Scarborough is the destination with something for everyone. Ideally situated for touring the coastline and the moors, Scarborough is an ideal base for a fun-filled break.

Perfect for a retreat after visiting Scarborough , Whitby, Filey and more. Well equipped, great bed, hot shower and good heating. A battery charger for busy adults. We would definitely stay again. Please consider allowing availability on arrival at 3pm, instead of 5pm. Most of the first day is gone at 5pm.

.. The property needs a very deep clean and a refresh. The bedding didn't feel laundered and there were cobwebs in the crockery cupboard. The bed was too high and the sofa too low. Get some internet, it's 2024!

The cottage was dark and dated there was no hot water from the shower we told the owner but it wasnât fixed and we found out it wasnât working in 2021 the oven was disgusting with a layer of fat on the bottom we only used the kettle and toaster. The bed was 2ft 6in high and the bath was about 2ft 6in long. It wasnât a place we wanted to spend time in with the seating so uncomfortable, but for the weather we wouldnât have stayed the 4 nights.
