About this property

The stunning Scalby Moors is a truly luxurious holiday home where you can bring the generations together or spend time with your favourite friends. You will be forgiven for thinking that you have arrived at a boutique hotel as you tour around this exquisite property where every single space is absolutely divine. Sumptuous stylish fabrics and stunning contemporary furnishings work effortlessly alongside beautiful ceiling beams, panelled walls and ceilings, log burning fires and striking feature walls to offer a warm, welcoming ambience where you will feel totally indulged. In addition to glorious living spaces, five large bedrooms sleeping up to twelve guests and sensational bathrooms, Scalby Moors offers hot tub heaven, an indulgent sauna and wonderful alfresco lounge spaces.

Scalby Moors is located in the picturesque village of Scalby on the outskirts of Scarborough and on the road to Whitby. It is separated from Scarborough by the Scalby Beck which flows into the North Sea at Scalby Mills. Scalby is a delightful village with two pubs, two restaurants, a general store, tennis courts, a bowling green, playing fields, a Methodist chapel and the wonderful St Laurence’s Church, a Grade II listed building dating back to 1150AD. Scalby is on the route of the Tabular Hills Walk which links Scarborough to the market town of Helmsley on the western side of the North York Moors National Park and the Cinder Track is popular with walkers and cyclists. Within easy reach are Ravenscar, the very lovely Robin Hood’s Bay and the bustling town of Whitby.

Beautifully chic, Scalby Moors is an oasis of gracious and glorious living. You will truly relax at this exceptional holiday home which brilliantly combines its timeless character with all the comforts of contemporary living. The living spaces are superb with many spaces where you can sneak off with your holiday book or the Sunday newspapers for a spot of me time. The grand entrance hall comes with characterful original half panelled walls, a stone fireplace and a panelled ceiling. Beside the fireplace and the stylish electric fire is a gorgeous armchair where you can take a minute to rest, taking in the sweeping double width staircase. The main living space is an exquisite room for large groups with lavish sofas, an enormous wingbacked armchair with its zebra upholstery, other accent chairs, a feature fireplace with a log burning stove and gorgeous feature wall with elegant wallpaper. Double glass doors open to another living space. This is bright and beautiful with gorgeous colour splash cushions adorning yet more sumptuous chairs and a sofa. It too comes with a wood burning stove. This delightful space is open to the giant kitchen diner. The dining area offers a large twelve seater dining table, benches and chairs and well as a dresser and a wall-mounted television. Doors open from here to the garden and terrace. The chef’s dream of a kitchen boasts bespoke cabinetry, granite worktops, a sociable island and a triple size Aga. There is also a built-in elecric oven and microwave, a giant American style fridge freezer and a wine fridge. You will also discover a wine rack filled with bottles that you can enjoy using the honesty box. There is a separate utility room for laundry appliances, an extra fridge and a painted pew, an excellent spot for removing walking boots and coats. There is also a handy downstairs cloakroom. The first floor whisky room is another delight in deep red and with a stylish Scottish theme. It is a great spot for a late night dram, a game of cards or simple holiday chatter. It comes with a luxurious leather sofa, armchairs, bookcases full of books, games, a range of whiskies, a television and electric stove.

The bedrooms are split over the first and second floors. The first floor is home to the master suite, one other bedroom and a bathroom with the final three bedrooms on the second floor. The master is an incredible room with a spacious dressing area, walk-in wardrobe, wall mounted television and exquisitely dressed kingsize bed. Its dreamy ensuite bathroom offers his and hers sinks, an extra large bath where you can soak away any remaining stresses and a beautiful walk through shower. The second bedroom is another wonder with a kingsize bed adorned with luxurious soft furnishings, an original cast iron fireplace and a dressing table. The shower room is an open wet room. Upstairs, you will find a beautiful family room with a kingsize bed and two singles, a front facing room with a kingsize bed and another room facing the rear of Scalby Moors with another kingsize bed. The attention to detail is highly impressive in every room. The family bathroom on the second floor enjoys a lovely freestanding slipper bath and a separate rainfall shower.

Scalby Moors is reached by a sweeping gravel drive. At the rear you will find a patio and a terraced garden. On the first level you will discover a beautiful alfresco lounge area with a modern pergola with a retractable roof and led lighting. There are other outdoor seats and steps take you to the upper level with more seating under the apple tree. Through the arch, you will find a wonderful eight seater hot tub in a secluded spot next to a well-appointed changing room with a shower and toilet. From here you can access the large cedar clad sauna. What a wonderful treat this outside space is!

The wonderful Scalby Moors enjoys a fabulous spot in the pretty village of Scalby on the outskirts of Scarborough. It is a lovely tranquil place to enjoy the North Yorkshire coastline, the National Park and some wonderful towns and villages. A quaint beck runs through the village where you will enjoy charming country pubs and restaurants or perhaps a game of tennis.

Scarborough has been popular since Victorian times with its original fine buildings, parks, gardens, a castle and superb stretches of golden beach. It also boasts plenty of visitor attractions including the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, the Stephen Joseph Theatre, the Scarborough Spa, an aquarium, a water park and jolly amusement arcades.

A little further north, the tiny cliff top village of Ravenscar enjoys the most awesome, panoramic views in this coastal and moorland area. Ravenscar is known as the ‘resort that never was’. Following a figure-of-eight loop, it passes through National Trust land, boasting coastal vistas at their dramatic best. With views over sheer cliffs towards the distant quaint fishing village of Robin Hood’s Bay and the inlet of Blea Wyke, it is a fabulous spot surrounded by hay fields and wild flowers. This is a sensational area for walkers with the Cleveland Way, the Cinder Track, the Lyke Wake Walk and the stunning Coast to Coast walk all nearby. Another pretty village is Cloughton, just north of Scarborough and home to ancient cottages, two characterful pubs, a farm shop and much charm.

Robin Hood’s Bay is a quaint charming village which spills right down to the edge of the sea. You can embrace the village’s unusual architecture, stop at a cafe, enjoy the bay and uncover its fascinating smuggler’s secrets. You will enjoy its gorgeous sandy beach, rock pools, ancient fossils, narrow, twisting, cobbled streets and lots of alleyways. You can easily imagine the fishermen and smugglers walking the streets hundreds of years ago. It is quite easy to get lost in the little warren of lanes lined with old fisherman’s cottages, most of which have now been renovated. The village is sprinkled with a good range of cafes, pubs and restaurants. Get your cameras ready for this little gem! It sits fifteen miles north of Scarborough and six miles south of Whitby.

Walkers will be overjoyed to find the wonderful Cinder Track path, a disused twenty three mile long railway track that is also popular with cyclists and horse riders. The Cleveland Way hugs the cliff top as it winds its way to Hayburn Wyke, a picturesque rocky cove with a waterfall and an inn. Robin Hood’s Bay is the end point of Wainwright’s Coast to Coast route.

There is more to Whitby than meets the eye with its fascinating history! It is famous for its connections to Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Captain Cook. It boasts a Gothic culture with quirky narrow cobbled streets, independent shops and the majestic ruins of Whitby Abbey overlooking the town. The Captain James Cook memorial sits on West Cliff where he is looking out to sea and the Captain Cook Memorial Museum teaches you about his fascinating life and time in Whitby. Whitby is hilly, pretty and good for a bit of exercise! There are one hundred and ninety nine steps up to the abbey and St Mary’s Church. Whitby offers an excellent range of restaurants including the famous Magpie Cafe. The Magpie Cafe is quirky with numerous levels and offers many seafood dishes as well as the traditional fish and chips. There are the usual seaside attractions with the classic seaside fun of crabbing, sandcastle building, walks along the pier and plenty of amusement arcades. Just along from the main town and harbour you will find the lovely sandy beaches of Sandsend and Runswick Bay. Sandsend was originally two villages, Sandsend and East Row. There is a delightful cafe overlooking the beach.

Staithes is another very attractive village. Clinging to the hillside and boasting pretty winding, cobbled streets, 18th century cottages and characterful pubs, it is an absolute delight. This fabulous coastal village was once one the largest fishing ports in the North East but now it is a wonderful hillside gem perfect for exploring Yorkshire’s cliff top paths and the rock pools on the small sandy beach.
