Nestled in the heart of the picture‑perfect village of Goathland, Dilston House offers a warm and welcoming retreat in one of the North York Moors’ most beautiful settings. This charming and well‑presented cottage is ideal for families, keen walkers and anyone looking to slow the pace and immerse themselves in open countryside, dramatic moorland and classic Yorkshire villages.
Step inside and you’ll find a bright and comfortable sitting room, where a wood‑burning stove creates a cosy focal point – the perfect place to unwind after a day exploring windswept trails or enjoying the fresh coastal air. The ground‑floor kitchen is well equipped for easy self‑catering, while the separate dining room provides a relaxed space for shared meals, board games and planning the next day’s adventures.
Upstairs, Dilston House offers three tastefully presented bedrooms – one double and two twin rooms – all with their own wash basins, making them especially practical for families or groups sharing. These are complemented by a spacious bathroom with bath and hand‑held shower, a separate walk‑in shower, basin and WC, plus the added convenience of a separate cloakroom.
Outside, an enclosed front lawn provides a peaceful spot to sit with a morning coffee or evening drink, breathing in the fresh moorland air. Off‑road parking for several cars makes arrival easy and stress‑free, while three well‑behaved pets are very welcome, making this an excellent choice for dog lovers, with beautiful walks starting right from the doorstep.
Goathland’s village shop and friendly pub are close at hand, and a short drive brings you to Whitby, with its historic harbour, sandy beaches and iconic abbey – perfect for a classic day by the sea. Surrounded by sweeping moors, scenic railways and characterful villages, Dilston House is a delightful base from which to discover the natural beauty and rich heritage of the North York Moors.
The idyllic village of Goathland is set on the north eastern edge of the North York Moors National Park. It is surrounded by the rugged open moorlands which provide excellent walking country and on which sheep graze freely. The village has been popularised by the television programme Heartbeat. At the bottom of the village lies the station for the famous North York Moors Steam Railway. Here you can catch a train to Whitby or Pickering and relax as the train winds its way through the moors. Goathland is within easy reach of the East Coast towns of Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hoods Bay and Scarborough, making it a great holiday base.
