The Hideaway is a well-received holiday rental in Whitby, praised for its cleanliness, comfort, and prime location for exploring the North Yorkshire coastline. Guests appreciate the proximity to local shops, the designated parking space, and the well-equipped kitchen. The property is described as cosy, spacious, and tastefully decorated, making it a popular choice for return visits.
Guests consistently mention that The Hideaway is spotless and very clean, indicating high standards of cleanliness throughout the property.
The property is lauded for its great location, with easy access to local amenities, public transport, and attractions like Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay, making it an excellent base for exploration.
Reviewers find The Hideaway to be very comfortable and cosy, with a good mattress for a restful sleep and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.
The apartment is well-equipped with quality fittings and ample kitchen equipment. However, there are minor maintenance issues like a loose toilet seat and a comment about the dining table blocking access. The presence of a dehumidifier to combat dampness is noted as effective.
While guests mention the provision of tea, fresh milk, and biscuits, there is not enough consistent information about thoughtful gestures or gifts to accurately score this category. It should be noted that such amenities are appreciated but not guaranteed.

The Hideaway is a fabulous, ground floor apartment, refurbished in 2018 with contemporary décor. The modern open plan kitchen and living area is deceptively spacious and is complemented by two comfortable bedrooms including an en-suite master bedroom. The picturesque village has its own stores, traditional pubs, tea rooms and a famous local butchers which are all within walking distance of your front door.
The North York Moors Steam Railway regularly passes through the village train station and there is a fabulous walk into neighbouring Whitby shadowing the train tracks through Briggswath and Ruswarp making it a lovely route. The River Esk is the only river in Yorkshire inhabited by salmon and there is an actual salmon leap where at the right time of year you will see them jumping up the ledge in the water and heading to their breeding ground.
Briggswath has a fabulous boating lake and café as well as an 18-hole putting green. The fascinating town of Whitby is where the River Esk meets the sea and is famous for its gothic links to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. There are many events and festivals all year round such as the bi-annual Goth Weekender, a regatta and many more. Climb the 199 steps up to the abbey and enjoy the views over the town and out to sea, roam the cobbled backstreets taking in the sights and smells of this ancient part of town. Take a ride on the open top bus or head out to sea on search of minke whale, seals and dolphins, or just enjoy watching the world go by in one of the many tearooms, coffee shops and delis in the town. There is a 1½ mile stretch of golden sands forming parts of the Cleveland Way towards Sandsend or head south along the Cinder Track towards Robin Hood’s Bay and the Victorian seaside town of Scarborough.
Scarborough has its North and South Bays with vast beaches, as well as a Sealife Centre, a water park and the open air theatre boasting some top international acts and artists throughout the summer. Head inland and explore the natural beauty of the North York Moors National Park with an abundance of walking and cycling routes, ancient abbeys and pretty villages offering a warm welcome and homemade food. The Hideaway is a wonderful base to enjoy everything this wonderful part of North Yorkshire has to offer. There is even a bus stop for the bus from Whitby to Pickering which has been voted the most scenic bus route in Britain which takes in villages such as Grosmont and Goathland on its way to Pickering. Beach 4 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

I really don't know how to describe the hideaway.....perfect on every level.Decoration and facilities were top class. Towels and bedding was top class. We were able to keep the hideaway warm and toasty. Communication with owner and housekeeping was excellent. Would recommend to all. The biscuits and milk on arrival was a nice touch.

The location of The Hideaway is perfect. The showcased photos of its interior do not do it justice. The apartment had everything I needed and I was very comfortable during my week’s stay. The bathrooms are modern, well lit, and immaculately clean. The modern kitchen has M&S dishes, and the tea, fresh milk, and ginger biscuits were much appreciated. My only gripe is with cottages.com who never responded to my queries which was a little frustrating, especially when the infernal smoke detector began chirping!
