The Hideaway Low Hawsker is a charming, cosy cottage in a peaceful location near Whitby, ideal for couples and dog owners seeking a relaxing break with scenic walks on the doorstep. Guests frequently praise its cleanliness, well-equipped interior, and secure garden. The welcome hampers and friendly hosts are often highlighted as thoughtful touches. While the cottage is compact and may not suit those with mobility issues or large dogs, most visitors found it comfortable and inviting, with many returning for repeat stays.
Most guests found the cottage clean and well-presented, with several specifically mentioning its spotless condition. However, a small number of reviews noted issues such as mould in the bathroom, dust, and an unclean BBQ, which slightly lowered the score.
The location is highly praised for its tranquillity, proximity to Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay, and access to scenic walking routes. Guests appreciated the peaceful setting and convenient access to local attractions.
The cottage is described as cosy and comfortable by most guests, with a good use of space. However, its small size, steep stairs, and compact bathroom may not suit everyone, particularly those with mobility issues or larger dogs.
The property is generally well-equipped, with guests noting it had everything needed for a pleasant stay. Some minor issues were mentioned, such as drainage smells and difficulty accessing the hoover, but overall facilities were positively received.
Many guests appreciated the welcome hampers, including treats for dogs, and the friendly, attentive hosts. While these thoughtful touches are frequently mentioned, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

The cottage has undergone a major renovation that has been completed to a very good standard, with tasteful décor and furnishings throughout. There is an enclosed private garden area outside that is perfect for your dog to run around in while you relax and enjoy a glass of wine. There’s also a barbecue area for making the most of the warm weather.
Secluded yet surprisingly close to town, the seaside resort of Whitby is just a few miles away, easily accessible by car or on foot. The town is home to a jam-packed calendar of events which take place all year round, and you can take a tour bus to see the fascinating sites, which include the stunning Abbey and St Mary’s Church high above the cliffs. There are also regular boat cruises that offer a different aspect of the beautiful town from the water. A day trip to Robin Hood’s Bay is a must during your stay at The Hideaway. Just 3 miles away, the bay is full of character and charm, thanks to its cobbled, narrow streets and alleyways lined with an eclectic mix of individually-run shops, pubs and tearooms.
A little closer to home, Hawsker has a warm and cosy local pub that serves local food, and for the outdoorsy types, there’s a disused railway line only a few hundred yards away that stretches some 21 miles from Whitby to Scarborough.
The North York Moors National Park lies just inland from the North Yorkshire coastal resorts of Whitby and Scarborough, with over 1,400 miles of trails, footpaths and bridleways that cobweb the rolling heather-clad moorland and meet in the pretty rural villages and historic country towns. Carving a pathway deep through the North York Moors is the famous North York Moors Steam Railway, which carries its passengers from Pickering in the south northward to Grosmont, and then along the lovely Esk Valley to Whitby on the coast. A little further afield are the rolling hills and picture-perfect river valleys of the Yorkshire Dales. Beach 2 miles. Shop 1 mile, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Lovely little cottage hidden away in the village of Low Hawsker just outside Whitby. It was clean well equipped and comfortable. It is very small and not for the less able bodied as the open stairway and the small amount of space between the top of the stairs and the bathroom door could be seen as a bit of a hazard, but setting that aside, it was warm and comfortable., even in the freezing temperatures we had during our stay. There was a lovely welcome pack including wine and even treats for our dog. Perfect little get away accommodation

The cottage was extremely small, with no outlook, as the living area was below garden level, which could be a bit claustrophobic for some people. The bathroom and toilet areas were also very tiny, making it difficult to manoeuvre around in, the windows were showing signs of mould, especially in the bathroom and toilet areas. Overall we enjoyed our stay but pleased we did not take our GSD dog as really, the property only suits a small dog.
