"A comfortable cottage close to plenty of interesting places to visit. My husband loves the log burner for our winter visits."
Derek – 11 Oct 2018
"Nice and cosy"
Michelle – 28 Sep 2018
"3rd time of staying. Lovely cottage, warm, spacious and comfortable. Only criticism, bathroom lock and handle need adjusting as door cannot be locked and stuck closed a few times. Recycling needs to be clear so visitors know where to put items. Other than that, great!"
Elaine – 31 Aug 2018
"Lovely cottage with an enclosed garden with woods and walks opposite, ideal if you have a dog. A few of the utensils and equipment in the kitchen could do with updating as they had broke. We would stop here again."
Lynne – 27 Aug 2018
"I only booked S15470 a few weeks before staying for the Bank Holiday weekend and was not disappointed. We were a family group of 4 generations from a 3 month old baby to an 88 year old and we were all very comfortable. The cottage was warm and had everything we needed for a relaxing weekend. The only niggles were a lack of drinking glasses. There were wine, shot and pint glasses but no tumblers and only 4 cereal bowls which for a cottage sleeping 5 is not very convenient."
Neil – 10 Aug 2018
"Great cottage with good amenities and great base for exploring North Yorkshire. Two of the single beds are quite small but still ok. Well equipped kitchen although could do with a few more child friendly plates, dishes, etc."
Anne – 28 May 2018
"A beautiful cottage tucked away in a very quiet location with easy links to the local area. Would highly recommend staying here."
Alan – 25 May 2018
"This was our second visit to Barff House Cottage, for us it was the ideal location as we still have friends in the area and after having lived there for a few years it is good to be central to our old haunts, however on this visit we felt that the cottage was feeling a bit lacklustre and could do with a little bit of TLC, apart from this it is still a lovely cottage in a great location."
Lyn – 5 Jan 2018
"We love this cottage, this was our second visit and we enjoyed it just as much as the first time. Our dog loves the close proximity to woods."
Barry – 29 Dec 2017
"Enjoyed the cottage I think the beds are way too small in 2 of the 3 bedrooms The 2 bedrooms that the Small beds are in, are also too small for comfort People should be comfortable for that amount of Money and it was more like compromise rather than comfort for those staying in the small rooms Also I have to say that the TV in the Living Area is out of date and way too small.TV's are so inexpensive these days, that not spending money to up date that is a shame Hope this helps Barry Siddle"
Rayna – 2 Dec 2017
"A lovely and spacious cottage in a quiet village with a fantastic pub! Just a short drive to major amenities. We would definitely stay here again!!"
Neil – 25 Aug 2017
"Good spacious cottage with good amenities. The area is a good base from which to visit all the main attractions of North Yorkshire. If you have allergies to dog hairs be careful as previous occupiers clearly let dogs on to sofas. Could do with more child friendly crockery. Overall a great stay and would definitely recommend it to others."
Kevin – 28 Jul 2017
"This cottage ticked all the boxes for us. The first impression when walking through the front door was clean spacious and well equipped. Ideal for dogs as the front garden was completely closed and secure. Our large playful Labrador could not leap the wall or the gates. The owners and guardians are in the large farmhouse next to us and were always pleasant and helpful. Great walks for our dog straight over the slightly busy main road so be careful with kids. Open plan kitchen and lounge area. Airy large bedrooms, comfy beds and plenty of storage. Local shops within a 10 minute walk and superstores within 10 minutes drive. Overall we loved the cottage, the area and the people. Highly recommended and we would love to visit again."
Margaret – 14 Jul 2017
"A lovely cottage in a good location for exploring the area. Good local pubs and restaurants"
Antony – 2 Jun 2017
"Excellent cottage perfectly situated for dog walking and exploring central Yorkshire. I would thoroughly recommend this cottage to anyone."
Mark – 17 Apr 2017
"The cottage was adaquate as a base for a short stay. The kitchen utensils were very basic so to use the kithen prepare family meals was a struggle as the frying pan was dirty and the sauce pans were lacking! Shame as The oven and hob were good. The cottage was lovely and warm which was lucky as some of the Windows were difficult to close/lock.We have 3 childen and after a long drive l didn't really expect to have to make up the bed for my son as previously this has always been done.Very small tv in the lounge especially as it is a family sized cottage. In general l just felt it lacked a personal/ welcoming touch. These are all very small things which could be easily rectified but all together made the cottage quite disappointing. Luckily this did not affect our enjoyment of the area.'"

"Perfect for two kids and a dog with woodland and rope swing opposite!"
Adele – 17 Feb 2017
"Nice break away. Cottage was nice, spacious and in a good location. Good value for money."
"Beautiful cottage and lovely location"
"Chose this cottage because of furnishings,2 lovely sofas to relax on. Lots I looked at only had 1 sofa no armchairs,or 2 armchairs no sofas!also decor very good.would of liked TVin main bedroom as we watch different programs, also somewhere to sit and do hair, makeup. No major issues.everything needed provided."
"My husband and I and our labrador stayed in this lovely cottage september 2016. Very spacious and clean and quiet location. Lovely walks across the road, a pub that serves food and a small shop a short walk away. Ideal location for exploring the area.If I had to have a gripe -I would have liked a dressing table in the main bedroom so I could have sat and dried my hair. The bedroom is spacious and there is room for one.Yes I would recommend and would return"
"Spacious cottage, plenty of room for the five of us. Great location to explore Yorkshire. Would definently stay again."
"Lovely cottage has everything you need for a comfortable break. Kitchen very well stocked, beds very cosy and enclosed garden great for the dog. Ancient woods across the road are brilliant for dog walking."
"A lovely cottage with a bit of tlc could b fantastic. The kitchen was well equipped although the I had to clean the dishwasher on arrival. There were curtain hooks missing off some curtains which looked tatty and the bathroom door kept sticking. The garden us a little sun trap and secure for dogs but once again lacked tlc. The beds were very comfortable and we slept incredibly well. Some of my points may seem petty but like I said would turn a lovely cottage into a fantastic one and overall I would recommend it."
"Nice cottage. Had two issues, one was me being thick, but both were sorted immediately and in a friendly way! The small woods opposite are great for dogs."
"Very comfortable , had a great time .The woods opposite are lovely for the dogsWould definitely return. Great location for York city centre"
"Problems were rectified very quickly, so thanks for that"

"Lovely cottage opposite a small wood.We really enjoyed visiting the horses in fields by the house but not enough in the local area to bring us back although all the locals were really welcoming!"

"Great location. Beautiful cottage. Very well equiped. Basic maintenance required ie few light bulbs out - vacuum broken."
"The cottage was very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Conveniently located for local facilities and visiting York, Harrogate and Leeds. TV and WiFi reception was a bit poor at times but as we were only there for a short break it was only a minor inconvenience"
"We had a lovely holiday in the cottage. It was welcoming, warm and comfortable and in a perfect location for us to do what we wanted. The garden is enclosed and sunny, it was much loved by Freddie, our dog. Cycling from the area is brilliant and there's easy access to places like York, Harrogate, the York Sculpture Park and Hepworth museum at Wakefield, Malton and Castle Howard are less than an hours drive. We'd certainly love to stay in the cottage again."
"Great cottage with friendly neighbours. Clean, comfortable family accommodation which was decorated and equipped to a high standard. Highly recommended."
"Excellent cottage.Perfect location within 15 minutes of York, nice woodland area across the road for the dog.Supermarket and petrol station 2 minutes away.Friendly owners who welcome you on arrival but then leave you alone to enjoy your holiday.Everything you could need or want to have a lovely relaxing holiday."
"Unfortunately we were not on holiday, we were using the cottage as temporary accommodation. However it was a good place to saty and access to Brayton Barff woods was great - straight across the road and good to unwind after work. The internet was slow- but acceptable for a holiday cottageWood burner lovely and the whole cottage lovely and warm. loads of hot water for showers, great deep bath."
"We had an excellent short break with the family. The property is part of a typical farm buildings conversion to the highest quality. Barff Cottage is a comfortable 3 bed bungalow with parking for 2 vehicles within the front garden area. It appears to be the only holiday let so there are residential neighbours and strict parking on this property only(something that we were unaware of ).There is no rear garden so although the front garden is pleasant and quiet, it is not totally private. Days out to the many attractions in York and surrounding area. Best value found was all day parking at the National Railway Museum at £9 (2015) and free entry (charity small donation suggest £3).This place is massive,an excellent start to a full day in York City.Barff Cottage is next to country cycling and walking areas. In the next village there is a Tesco convenient store and fuel stop which is very useful. This is on the way to nearest town of Selby. Not a tourist town of significance but to its credit it has a newly built Leisure Centre (2015 adult pool entry £4).Excellent and worth a daily visit. The 'I live here/Selby' website has an amusing, critical comment on Selby which was taken with a pinch of salt. However, there was clearly a problem to 'outsiders' as on 2 different independent requests for assistance to Morrison's staff were met with miserable 'couldn'd care less attitude'. Also overpriced products(compared with ASDA 2015) So, apart from the wonderful new Leisure Centre, no more time or money needed to be spent in Selby.Getting back to Barff Cottage, ideal for meeting up with family for a few days and sample life in another part of Britain. Not enough for a return visit but that's only because there's a lot of Britain yet to see.If there was anything to improve the cottage let then probably the instructions or 'how to use' couldn't be found i.e. washer,tv,cooker,ch,wood stove, recycling. Not enough of a problem or to bother a contact but something that a future let will be asked about. The wifi facilty was very useful as we all carry our own techy stuff(a desktop computer is also available).TV could be larger but DVD was usuful. Suggest local map showing the local cycle and path network along with the location of convenience shops and good local pubs and road network to tourist spots. There are many useful tourist leaflets onsite probably just need updating. The wood burning stove compliments the farm cottage, having it all set up for first time use would be better. There was ash in the stove from previous use.Thank you to cottage owners we all enjoyed out stay. All comments are from personal experience April 2015."
"Excellent cottage, very clean and renovated to a high standard. Cosy wood burner for chilly evenings. Friendly and helpful owners. Good location for day trips to York and Leeds. Pleasant woods to walk in opposite cottage. Nearby Selby with its impressive Abbey and nice bakery was worth an afternoon visit. I thought the cottage was very good value for money."
"A very warm, clean and cozy cottage. Owners very friendly and helpful. Would have preferred an en-suite bathroom as well as the main bathroom for a family of four, but otherwise great. A nice public footpath through woodland nearby - great for dogs.Convenient for Selby, York and the motorways."
"Well equipped cottage, clean, very warm, very comfortable, really handy for dog walking!"
"The cottage was everything we were looking for and the area around was first class for facilities. Across the road is a fantastic walk for myself and our dog, who enjoyed his time as well. The cottage is in easy reach of towns and cities in that area i.e. York, Leeds and Harrogate. A return visit in the near future is a must do."
"Lovely cottage, well furnished and with everything we needed for a great stay BUT the photos on the website were misleading and the kitchen/dining area is much smaller than it seemed making sitting round the table rather difficult. The proximity of other buildings, cars and people made it feel like living in a goldfish bowl. The towels are rough and old and do not match with the quality of the rest of the furnishings. We had a great weekend but will be looking elsewhere for our next stay."
"Excellent cottage, efficient at helping when we required additional bedding. Good garden for the dog. A hair dryer would be a nice addition to the otherwise very well equipped cottage."
