Discover the links to Robert the Bruce and how the De Seaton family supported this Scottish warrior, as well as how former resident Sir Francis Bigod rebelled against King Henry viii who famously destroyed the monastery at Whitby Abbey.
Seaton Hall has a fascinating past, the hall was named after the de Seton dynasty who resided from 1130 to 1307 and whose family made allegiances with and marriages to the Scottish Royal family. Passed down through generations, before slipping into disrepair. The present owner purchased the estate in 2002. He has employed a team of specialist masons and craftsmen and has been lovingly rebuilding and restoring this incredible place of local heritage.
The area offers walking trails including the Cleveland Way leading across the cliff tops. Many pretty coastal villages such as Runswick Bay, Robin Hoods Bay as well as Staithes. The historical seafaring town of Whitby delights guests with its cobbled old town, boat trips and the iconic Abbey ruins. Saltburn is a surfer’s paradise, with a beautiful Victorian pier. You can take a trip on the steam train across the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, taking in the views and visiting some beautiful villages along the way. For children you can ride the miniature train in Ruswarp before hiring a boat to row along the river. This is sure to be a stay to remember, twined with history, culture and the surrounding countryside. Beach 1 mile. Shop ½ mile, pub 0.7 miles and restaurant 100 yards.

We enjoyed a very relaxing week at Lady de Seton. It is situated perfectly to enjoy the North Yorkshire coast and it is within easy walking distance of Staithes. We loved the large airy space in the main living area of the cottage. It was very comfortable and had everything we needed. It was a relatively cool week for June but we stayed warm and cosy and the outdoor space overlooking the ‘mote’ was quite a sun trap for sitting out.

Lovely cottage, beautifully decorated and furnished in an antique style. Efficient central heating and log burner, which we used every night, as this May has only just started to warm up. We had no hot water in the kitchen when we arrived, which was quickly rectified by William the owner. The property is very quiet, situated on the outskirts of Staithes. We appeared to have a moorhen living in the moat outside the front door! My only niggle was that there isn’t really space for any food storage, other than the fridge. The cafe also isn’t open for the foreseeable, if anyone expects to use it. The property is ideally situated for walking into Staithes, though(probably about 20 mins to the harbour), and there are a couple of pubs with good food within a few minutes drive, should you not wish to cook. There is a decent bus service from the foot of the drive, North to places like Redcar, or South to Whitby, and Scarborough, one of the most scenic bus routes in the UK. Parking is also plentiful on site.

Excellent location and convenient for Saltburn, Staithes and Whitby. The accommodation was very splendid. We would have appreciated the ability to turn on one chandelier at a time - it was all three or none! Could they have separate switches?
