Guests say

Thistle-Doo Nicely is a characterful cottage with a fantastic log burner and comfortable bedding. Its unique charm and prime location are appreciated, though it would benefit from enhanced cleanliness and maintenance. Guests should prepare for steep stairs and self-sufficient heating.

Multiple reviews mention poor cleanliness, with reports of dust, spiders, webs, and a musky smell. The need for a thorough clean is a recurring theme.

While the town is mentioned, there are no specific comments on the property's location relative to local amenities or attractions, hence a score cannot be provided.

The bed is noted as comfortable and the laundry clean, but the steep stairs and lack of heating are concerns for comfort.

Facilities require attention; issues with hot water, heating, and kitchen appliances are noted. The electric shower is functional, but the overall maintenance is lacking.

No welcome packs or basic supplies were provided, which is disappointing for guests. While gifts are not mentioned, it's polite to note that such amenities are not guaranteed.

This cottage was dreadful.Prices for September were reasonable but id suggest paying slightly more to stay in a well presented cottage. Paint was peeling off damp walls and ceilings Cleanliness was shocking.Although towels were available there was no tea towels in kitchen. On the plus side the log burner was fantastic.bed was comfortable and laundry was clean.

The accomodation really needs a big update. Cleanliness was poor with muck around light fittings, dust in corners, a poor shower area, paintwork in poor condition in many places, peeling paint on others. The television was "equipped" with an aerial balanced on a curtain rail ... the reception inevitably was very poor. Hot water is not available "on-tap" and is only available if the stove is lit ... and no starter pack/firelighter is provided. So bear that in mind. The stairs are very, very difficult and although there is a hint of this in the description it was worse than expected. Some hand-rails were worryingly beginning to loosen, probably because of the stress put on them. Stairs varied in size (tread) and stair height and with very variable headroom on the stair cases it makes for an awkward, and for many, a dangerous access. The building is over 4 floors with the kitchen at the bottom and one bedroom and bathroom at the very top ... it's a long and difficult climb. Overall we'll not return and if Cottages.com don't address the many complaints about this property, we'll not be using their site anymore. We cut our holiday short!

A quirky cottage with bags of character. Really needs a good clean. Dust in corners and under the beds with plenty of spiders and webs. The electric oven and grill does not work, although the hob did. Air fryer and microwave were okay but not big enough to cook a roast dinner! No basic supplies provided, other than a couple of dishcloths and sponges, but no washing up liquid. If we wanted hot water, we had to light the fire. Not a problem.... but again, no firelighters, no kindling and no coal. We don't come for a short break to go shopping for this. The emersion heater wasn't supplying hot water. Thankfully the shower was electric. We did contact the owner/caretaker and was told someone may get out to fix the oven. No one did.... bank holiday weekend. We have been to other cottages and were provided with a welcome pack. Disappointed not to have had even the basics. Empty salt cellar, and the sea salt left was solid and lidless. This place needs some tlc and a little more thought for the guests. Oh, and an up to date information folder would be a help.... yes, there is WiFi if you can find the code.... not where it is stated in said info pack.Loved Staithes but would not be in a hurry to return to this cottage.
