York 12 miles. Apple Tree Cottage is a charming single storey cottage, beautifully decorated and including stone floors and underfloor heating, it boasts two ensuite double bedrooms, a stunning vaulted open plan living space with comfy lounge, fully equipped kitchen and dining as well as a utility, peaceful enclosed garden with rural views, and private parking for three cars. The cottage rests at the edge of the idyllic village of Crambe, nestled in the delightful Howardian Hills National landscape (AONB), a mile from the River Derwent. The location is beautifully peaceful with lots to explore on your doorstep, whilst still providing direct access to both historic York and the majestic North Yorkshire Moors and Coast. The glorious Yorkshire Wolds are just seven miles to the east of the cottage. The beloved city of York is easily accessed by car, bus or a beautiful cycle along country roads through local villages. York’s delights are too numerous to mention, but include the stunning York Minster (largest Gothic cathedral in Northern Europe), medieval city walls, and quaint streets, boat trips on the river Ouse, York Races, plentiful museums including the national railway museum, castle museum and internationally-renowned Jorvik Viking Centre with its “time trip” experience. A cycling city boasting two theatres, characterful pubs, restaurants, and great shopping, York has it all. Six miles north of Apple Tree Cottage, is the vibrant market town of Malton, food capital of North Yorkshire, with an abundant choice of independent shops and eateries. Pickering (15 miles) is home of the North York Moors Steam Railway, and “Gateway to the Moors” opens up the delights of historic coastal towns including Scarborough Whitby, Robin Hoods Bay and Filey to name but a few. The Coastliner bus service, voted the most scenic bus route in Britain, can be accessed by a brief walk or 2 minute drive from Apple Tree Cottage and runs frequent direct services throughout the day and evening to the Moors and Coast, as well as to York and Leeds. Six miles to the east of Apple tree cottage, lie the glorious Yorkshire Wolds, a wonderfully peaceful walking and cycling area with lots to discover amidst the sweeping chalkland hills and vales of this unique landscape. The area is rich in stately homes and gardens; the majestic Castle Howard, (filming location for Brideshead Revisited, Victoria and Bridgerton) is 10 minutes drive away. Harewood House, RHS Harlow Carr, Beningbrough Hall, Nunnington Hall, and many more are within an hour’s drive. Relaxing back at the cottage, you can enjoy a rich array of wildlife in the garden, borrow a book from the village church library. Dine inside or out or cosy up on the plush sofa to enjoy your own streaming channels on the TV, perhaps accompanied by a glass of something from the local gin distilleries or vineyard! The neighbouring village of Westow has two beautiful and friendly country pubs, offering a choice of dining styles with splendid views in summer and cosy fires in winter. Summer and winter, there is plenty to delight the whole family at Apple Tree Cottage.
Crantock is a small village on the Atlantic Coast with a beautiful beach served by a National Trust car park. Being just a short drive to the popular resorts of Newquay and Perranporth, if you want to escape the crowds yet still be close to the action, this is the place to be. There's stunning countryside all around and lots of pretty villages to explore. However, the majestic coastline is the main
event. Enjoy superb walks along the coastal path over dramatic cliff-tops, or magnificent surfing on beaches stretching from Watergate Bay in the North, to Fistral Beach in the centre of Newquay, and on down the coast to Chapel Porth and Gwithian. There are a number of golf courses in the area, as well as a host of National Trust properties, traditional pubs and outstanding restaurants.
Newquay itself is a visitor's paradise with a wide variety of shops, attractions, pubs and restaurants aplenty, plus a modern cinema complex. Connection wise, being a short distance off the main A30 means access by car is easy, and Newquay Train Station and Newquay Airport are close by. Being centrally located in mid-Cornwall, you are ideally placed to explore farther afield with
Truro, Falmouth, Padstow, Fowey, The Eden Project, Charleston Harbour, St.Ives and St. Michael’s Mount all under an hour away.
