The Dreamer’s Hut is named after ’The Hawnby Dreamers’ - three local shepherds who in the mid-1700s, fell asleep whilst working in the fields on a hot day in the adjacent valley of Ladhill Ghyll, of which the hut overlooks. The shepherds awoke to discover they had each had the same vivid dream of spiritual awakening and being called to change their lives for the better. The three subsequently walked to Newcastle to hear the preaching of the famous John Wesley and converted to Methodism, bringing this faith back to Hawnby. We loved the location of the Dreamers Hut for the tranquility and views. It was also very clean with a "welcome pack" providing tea/coffee and milk enough to get started. The area around the nearest town of Helmsley has many and varied things to do and places to visit - for fair weather or wet. Further afield York is just an hour away and we took the opportunity to visit Breezy Knees Gardens in the sunshine. In the immediate locality of Hawnby, just be aware that the shop/cafe does not open Tues-Thursday and the closely located and comfortable Owl pub caters for "high-end" dining at the resultant high prices. The only things lacking in the accommodation, which had a comfortable bed looking out at the fantastic view, were a catch or door stop to prevent the sliding bathroom door leaving you in full view(!) and storage for clothing - as all available space/plastic under-bed drawers already contain cleaning products and replacement supplies for the hut. However, for a short break it was adequate and it was a bonus to find washing-up liquid and soap already provided. We would happily book the Dreamers Hut again if staying in the area as we found the location suited our needs.

We had a lovely stay at the Dreamers Hut. It's quite big for a shepherds hut and very very clean! It is set in the most stunning peaceful location. With lots of birds to watch and hear whilst sitting on the deck area. There are a couple walks nearby, with others a short drive away. The hot tub was lovely, but being wood fired, it takes about 3 hours to heat up, but we still enjoyed it! The pub across the street, The Owl is dog friendly, good food and lovely atmosphere.

The Dreamers hut is fabulous, was so relaxing and peaceful. The bed and pillows are so comfy and we slept great. With kind criticism the hot tub really needs a good power wash and the filters scrubbed out hence the reason we only used it once. The cleanliness of the hut overall could have been better, utensils, pots, floor. However the bathroom was spotless and bedding and towels were the same.We arrived back from a day out to meet two people walking back up the gravel path towards us from the hut telling us they were just being nosey, they were not the only two either as it happened again. We felt this could have been an invasion of privacy if we had been in as we only had the curtains shut at bed time so they would have seen right in!This made me uncomfortable for the rest of the stay just in case someone appeared to have a look.A suggestion would be perhaps to put a chain with a sign occupied on the wall at the gravel path, to the hut from the other row of cottages to stop people from just wandering through.Overall we had a wonderful time and we would love to return.Perfect peaceful getaway and views were amazing.
