About this property

Well-positioned in the pretty village of Ampleforth in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park is The Old Post Office, a characterful dwelling, inviting ten guests. Just a stone's throw away from local amenities and a host of beauty spots, whilst offering original beamed ceilings, inviting interiors, and flexible sleeping arrangements with an external annexe on offer, the cottage provides the ideal base for a group celebration. Enter the welcoming living/dining room, featuring a woodburning stove, a plush velvet corner sofa, and a six-seater dining table, delivering a homely setting after a day of adventure. For further dining opportunities, head to the rear terrace, both enclosed and private, or gather in the kitchen/diner, enjoying a country style. When sleep calls, head upstairs to select from one of four spacious bedrooms, including two super-king-size (zip/link) and two doubles, some benefitting from en-suite shower rooms, whilst the others are serviced by a traditional bathroom with roll-top bath. For those who prefer some privacy, make the external annexe your home, housing a double mezzanine bedroom, en-suite, and open-plan living space. Prepare for your coming adventures by visiting Ampleforth and its charming amenities, ahead of touring the stunning remains of Byland Abbey, enjoying a hands-on experience at the National Centre for Birds of Prey (NCBP), or rambling through the pretty grounds of National Trust - Nunnington Hall. Travelling towards the city of York, be spoilt for choice when planning your itinerary, with the chance to visit the Museum and Gardens, follow the border of York City Walls, or enjoy a historical activity at JORVIK Viking Centre. Dotted across the national park you'll also find a host of attractions, including Ryedale Folk Museum, Butterwick Alpaca Retreat, where you can trek across the countryside, and Castle Howard, an enchanting stately home, inviting the entire family. Gather your loved ones with The Old Post Office as your base.

The unspoiled village of Ampleforth, which is home to a few old homes, two pubs, a tearoom, and the neighbourhood store, is situated on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. There are several excellent restaurants nearby, and the market town of Helmsley, which has two Italian restaurants, a curry house, two hotels, and two pubs, is only a short drive away. While the National Park to the north offers distinctive, beautiful moorland scenery and a range of walks and cycle paths, the calm rural roads are perfect for cyclists looking to explore the area's hidden communities. Ampleforth is in the ideal location for a varied yet restful vacation thanks to adjacent Pickering and its steam trains to the north, Castle Howard less than 15 miles away, and Scarborough and the East Coast about 35 miles away.

The kind owner had left a very generous welcome pack and plenty of wood for cosy fires - all very much appreciated. Lots to do locally in this beautiful part of the country.

Rayburn took a bit of getting used to but when combined with other facilities worked well. Only small gripe was that the main lounge area could do with more seating for 9.

The location is perfect, we made the most of the lovely cafe opposite and had an afternoon tea one afternoon. The accomodation is so spacious and perfect for our group. We would highly recommend staying at the post office
