Pennan Lodge is highly praised for its stunning, peaceful location overlooking the sea and Pennan village, making it an ideal base for exploring the Aberdeenshire coast. Guests consistently mention the cottage’s cleanliness, comfort, and well-equipped facilities, with many highlighting the beautiful views, tranquillity, and opportunities for stargazing and wildlife spotting. While a few minor maintenance issues and suggestions for improvement were noted, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The majority of guests found the cottage to be very clean and well maintained, with only a couple of isolated comments mentioning minor issues such as mould in the bathroom. Overall, cleanliness is a strong point.
The location is universally praised for its breathtaking views, peaceful setting, and proximity to beaches, coastal walks, and local attractions. Guests repeatedly describe the setting as stunning and tranquil.
Most reviewers found the cottage comfortable, warm, and spacious, with restful nights and a homely atmosphere. A few minor issues were mentioned, such as a small bed cover and water pressure, but these did not detract significantly from guests’ comfort.
The cottage is described as well equipped with everything needed for a relaxing stay, including kitchen appliances and utensils. A few guests noted minor maintenance issues, such as worn cooker settings and a shower riser needing repair, but these were exceptions.
Some guests mentioned a welcome package (biscuits and milk sachets), and prompt responses from the owners, including replacing a damaged TV and returning forgotten clothes. However, as gifts and extras are not guaranteed, future guests should not expect them as standard.

No smoking.. These two very comfortable semi-detached holiday cottages (26817 and 26818) occupy a stunning elevated position on a mixed working farm on the headland just outside the beautiful village of Pennan. Both properties boast fantastic sea views; Mill Shore Cottage has a cosy living room which features windows on two sides allowing uninterrupted viewing of Mill Shore below – a secluded shingle beach with sandy shallows beyond, offering a unique perspective on the abundant marine life – seals can be spotted easily in the bay, whilst further out whales and dolphins are often sighted. Pennan Lodge again has marvellous views of Pennan itself and the bay beyond. In addition to the amazing marine life, just round the corner and visible from the cottages is Troup Head, a renowned nature reserve featuring the only UK mainland colony of gannets. Next door is Cullykhan Beach, another secluded cove reached by a steep walk down to the shore. Pennan is renowned for its famous phone box as featured in the film ’Local Hero’ but it is a lovely village in its own right, typical of those strung out along this rugged coastline, including Crovie and Gardenstown, reached by steep winding roads to the bottom of the cliffs from which they cling. This is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty providing wonderful areas for walking. Shop and restaurant 4 miles, pub ¼ mile.

Stunning location, lovely cottage, clean and well equipped. Great hot shower which needs the riser/holder fixed but I managed to get it to stay in place, just! I didn't find the information folder until the day before I left - would be good if this was left out. More toilet roll would have been good too. As a photographer/wildlife enthusiast I would have loved access to the sea views outside the cottage but this was private. I had stunning views from the windows, just couldn't get them outdoors. Minutes away from Pennan village and RSPB Troup Head.

Sensational from start to finish. The most incredible setting if you like peace and quiet. Could not fault it at all. An absolute gem of a place. Clean, comfortable with everything you need for a proper relaxing break away from it all. We would defiantly recommend without hesitation. Try the food at Pennan Inn. Locally sourced produce. Shona’s delicious home made cakes at her coffee hut in pennan is a realTreat. Visit the little pottery shop on the bay next to the cottage. I bought some lovely keepsakes, pretty shingled cove to sit by to and bird watch. Would we return? …….. definitely 🙌🏼

Lovely peaceful place to stay with great views off the sea. Clean and tidy the only small problem was someone had damaged the tv when we let them know it was replaced immediately can’t fault them.
