Port-an-Eillean is a quaint detached property set on a croft looking out to Loch Riddon on the Cowal Peninsula. The cottage is over 100 years old, with thick stone walls and originally had a thatched roof. All rooms have a view down to the sea loch and across to the hills beyond. The cottage is pleasantly furnished with two bedrooms upstairs and lounge, kitchen/diner and shower room downstairs. The area is great for cycling and a canoe/kayak can be easily launched from the shore. Fishing is available from the rocky shoreline. There is an enclosed grassy garden at the front door and from the back door you are lead out onto decking which is also enclosed, both provide areas for children to play. The croft is set within approximately 14 acres of rugged ground, with some machinery stored on it, unfenced to the shoreline and a river runs passed the cottage, so children would need to be supervised at all times. The croft is no longer worked but the owners may on occasions visit their static caravan.

Lovely, well equipped cottage with fabulous views across the loch, with a friendly, helpful host. Not far away is the village of Colintraive with a hotel with good food, a beautiful community garden, a heritage room and a small post office/ shop. Nearby is a fantastic relaxation/massage practitioner (The escape Pod). You can also take the ferry over to Bute. This is quite a range of facilities for somewhere in the middle of nowhere! The real joy of Port An Eillean is the sense of peace you get from wandering along the shore and gazing out over the loch. Beautiful.

One of the most exceptionally lovely houses we have stayed in, the location is simply fantastic! Dog friendly, family friendly, beautiful, peaceful location. We simply adored this location! The house, the water everything was perfect. Wildlife galore and easy water access meant lots of fishing, kayaking and SUP. We have visited many houses in and around the area over the years and have never seen one so clean and organised. Everything you need to cook, or sit out and enjoy the Loch, the fireplace is so lovely and heats up the room easily and fast. For dogs there are two lovely enclosed areas on the house and lots of places to explore around and down to the shores, walks, and more to explore. Lots of places to eat that are dog friendly and serve amazing food. Our two loved sunbathing and had the best time whilst there. The area itself is well suited as a base to explore, with lots to do on land and on water, Bute is well worth a day trip or two. The shoreline will keep kids and adults entertained for ages, walks everywhere and quiet road access to the cottage that makes for a breath taking arrival. You'll be immensely sad to leave! We are already talking about our next visit we loved it that much. If you like walking, running, cycling, kayaking, fishing or just sitting around taking in stunning scenery then I 100% recommend. Special thank you to Callum & Co for being such wonderful human beings.

The static caravan is just 15 yards in front of the cottage, spoiling and taking up a lot of the view from any window facing the loch. There is a further cabin and a second caravan behind that. The owners seem to live in the caravan and the cabin on a full-time basis, making it feel like you shouldn't go down to the loch for a swim or a picnic on the seashore because you're intruding on their space. So we didn't :( Even on the deck you feel you could be being watched. There is NO PRIVACY outside thanks to the closeness of the caravan and not knowing when the owners, their delivery men etc will walk to get to and from cars. No calm seclusion. Instead, a feeling of being trapped in the house. The description on the website is dishonest - the caravan appears on none of the photos.(and the pub is not within a mile)
