Lyall Lodge has been recently refurbished to provide spacious and comfortable holiday accommodation on the popular Barend Park at Sandyhills. The lodge is at the end of a short cul de sac and is on the edge of the site with adjoining fields ensuring peace and privacy. The surrounding hills and forests are teeming with wildlife and there is a nearby pond as well making a pleasant setting if you need a rest from the fabulous Sandyhills beach.
Whilst the beach will be too much for some to resist, the local area has marvellous opportunities for other recreational pursuits. These of course include wildlife and birdwatching which is particularly well served with the RSPB Mersehead Reserve just a few miles along the coast. The reserve is particularly spectacular in winter with thousands of geese and other over wintering wildfowl present but in summer is also worth a visit with pleasant walks through the reserve woodlands down to the beach. During the winter the reserve also runs Badger Watching and other events. The nearby Southerness lighthouse is also worth visiting and it is occasionally opened to allow visitors to climb to the top of the historic light and see the view of the coast and to the Lake District Hills,
South West Scotland has numerous historic sites to explore including Sweetheart Abbey in New Abbey together with one of the oldest Corn Mills, also maintained by Historic Scotland. Connections with Burns can be explored in Dumfries and other villages including Ellisland Farm at Holywood where Burns farmed for a number of years. Cycling and walking are particularly well catered for with numerous coastal walks and also Forestry Commission Woodlands including the 7Stanes Mountain Bike Routes which have been laid out in a number of the Forestry Commission properties across the region. The closest of these are at Dalbeattie and Mabie Woods both of which provide superb and spectacular settings for quiet walks or testing strenuous mountain biking routes.
With its close proximity to Sandyhills beach and it's quite location Lyall Lodge, once visited will be re-visited time and again for many years.
