Guests say

Simmer Dim is a well-received cottage, praised for its cleanliness, comfortable furnishings, and beautiful rural location. Guests appreciate the thoughtful touches by the hosts and the well-equipped facilities, despite some finding the bathrooms cosy and the driveway entrance challenging. The property's peaceful setting and proximity to local attractions make it a popular choice for a relaxing holiday.

Guests consistently note the property as extremely clean and well-maintained, with several reviews highlighting its spotless condition upon arrival.

The cottage's rural setting offers tranquillity and beautiful views, with easy access to local beaches and attractions. Some guests mention a busy road and driveway visibility as minor concerns.

The majority of guests find the cottage cosy and comfortable, with special mentions of the beds and living areas. A few guests note the bathrooms are small and one mentions the beds being low for those with disabilities.

Facilities are generally well-received, with a well-equipped kitchen and ample living spaces. Some guests suggest minor improvements such as more drinking glasses and a more comfortable bed in one of the rooms.

While many reviews express gratitude for the owner's attentiveness and some mention welcome gifts, there is not enough consistent detail about the presence of gifts to guarantee their provision for future guests.

Southerness is a small coastal village established in the late 18th century, which looks out over the Solway Firth, and forms part of the Colvend coast, one of the finest stretches of coastline on the 'Scottish Riviera'. Home to two pubs, a village store, a leisure centre with a pool and two miles of sandy beaches with sand dunes, rock pools and Gulf Stream warmed waters, and one of the oldest lighthouses in Scotland, built in 1748, it has everything you will need for a relaxing holiday. The nearby Criffel Hill rises to 569m, offers wonderful views of the farmland and the sands of the Nith Estuary below, and provides great walking opportunities. The Southerness Championship Golf Course adjoins the village and offers panoramic views of the Solway Firth, the Cumbrian Lake District to the south and the Galloway Hills to the west. A great location, with something to keep everybody occupied.

We working long hours, but after a tough day at work it was the perfect chill zone. This lodge is so well equipped, especially kitchen stuff, spare towels too. Price was reasonable too, would have stayed for an additional week if the cottage was available. The WiFi was fine for a phone, and just about managed to stream my firestick. Would be a real addition if they were to upgrade to fibre broadband as it is available.

  • Frances

Not comfortable for an adult. The road is extremely dangerous, fast traffic for a country road even with the mirror. Would not feel comfortable getting out of the driveway in the summer when the traffic is much heavier.

  • Linda

Everything was just perfect! Beautifully clean and comfortable. Backing car into property no problem after reading previous reviews. Mirror on road just outside so helpful! Lovely places around to visit. We loved Dumfies (River walk and shops) and Kirkcudbright Harbour and lovely shops and cafes displaying local artists work. We want to go again asap!!!
