Terraughtie Cottage West receives glowing praise for its cosy atmosphere, immaculate presentation, and excellent amenities, including a hot tub and a large, secure garden ideal for dogs and children. Guests appreciate its convenient yet private location near Dumfries and the adjacent farm shop. The cottage is well-equipped and comfortable, with thoughtful touches enhancing the stay. While some mention minor road noise and a preference for an electric kettle, the overall experience is overwhelmingly positive, with many guests eager to return.
The majority of reviews highlight the cottage as spotless, beautifully presented, and very clean. Only one review mentions a blocked hoover and a dishwasher that needed emptying, but these are isolated comments amidst consistent praise for cleanliness.
Guests love the cottage's proximity to Dumfries, main roads, and local amenities like the farm shop, while still feeling secluded and private. Some mention minor road noise, but most find the location ideal for exploring the area.
The cottage is frequently described as cosy, warm, and comfortable, with special mention of the beds and living areas. A few guests note the beds are lower or softer than preferred, and one mentions the living room seating could be improved, but overall comfort is rated highly.
Facilities such as the hot tub, enclosed garden, well-equipped kitchen, and wood burner are highly praised. Minor suggestions include adding an electric kettle and occasional maintenance notes (e.g., fridge defrost), but guests consistently find everything they need for a relaxing stay.
Many guests mention thoughtful touches such as welcome hampers, gifts, and personal communication from the hosts. While these gestures are greatly appreciated, please note that such gifts are not guaranteed for every stay.

Really beautiful cottage. Spotless clean and beautiful decor throughout. All you could need for a great stay away from home! The hot tub was amazing, it’s under a lean-to, so although the weather was scorching, if it had tipped it down you could still enjoy it. The enclosed garden is massive - the pictures don’t do it justice. Loads of space for frisby and ball games and the dog had a huge amount of space to potter around safely. Beds and pillows are comfy. Thank the Lord for hosts who provide pillows that aren’t the width of a tortilla wrap and nice fluffy towels haha! Loads of gorgeous extras are left for guests like Prosecco and tablet as a welcome, some cookies in the jar, sugar tea and coffee. There were cleaning products under the sink and a brand new washing machine. For a 38 year old woman there is nothing nicer than a washing machine and the chance to get it dry on the outside rotary airer, nobody likes to turn into widow twanky when they get home doing mountains of washing. Our little boy has additional needs and epilepsy so having the hospital so close was a massive comfort. There is some traffic noise but not much. We visited Threave Gardens, Ernespie Farm and the red kite feeding station which was phenomenal (feeding is at 2pm). We had a ride out to Sandyhills Beach and Mossyard Beach which was absolutely gorgeous! We had some Doodle Bugs (cockchafers) knock on the back patio door late at night. I was amazed by them!
