Set back in its own courtyard, Church Cottage has been tastefully renovated retaining many original features and offers lovely accommodation for two guests. On entering the apartment the beautiful tiled floor in the dining hall is one of the many features including the original church windows.
Rigg is a quiet little village a stone’s throw away from the world famous Gretna Green. The location is ideal as it is only minutes from the main A75 and M6 so absolutely perfect for exploring the area. Gretna Green, one of the world’s most popular wedding destinations due to its romantic wedding traditions dating back to the 1700s. Possibly the most romantic village in the UK, it has become synonymous with romance and runaway couples. Marriage ceremonies are still performed over a blacksmith’s anvil and Gretna Green attracts thousands of couples from all around the world to be married each year. It is easy to overlook that there is more to this area than weddings. Ideally placed to not only explore Dumfries and Galloway it is also within easy reach of the Scottish Borders, Hadrian’s Wall, the fells of the Lake District National Park and much more. During your stay at Church Cottage you can also enjoy a day’s shopping at Gretna Green Outlet Village, and a must is a trip to the nearby Devil’s Porridge Museum where you can learn the story of how this area flourished into a hub of wartime activity.

Lovely place with lovely helpful friendly hosts. Flat is in a converted church with many original features, some history and full of plants. A very relaxing break. There's nothing much going on in Rigg but the location is convenient for local facilities and road/railway links. Highly recommended for a place to stay in that area.

We've just returned home after staying at Church Cottage for a week. It was clean and well equipped. George was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of the area. My husband uses a wheelchair but managed to get around the cottage with my help. Some of the doors were too narrow for his walker but with the layout it was manageable, which seeing as the cottage was NOT described as being disabled friendly it was convenient for us.

I loved everything about Church House. Its unique character, the decor of the apartment, the visual impact of the outdoor areas.I felt relaxed, comfortable & confident during my time there. As a single, female traveller, the latter is important to me.No negatives - just a personal preference. The weather was warm & humid {tho not as bad as England}. Polyester duvet in polyester cover was impossible to sleep under. I improvised with the lovely cotton bath sheet, & slept well under it all 6 nights. {I did consider using one of the curtains before I realised the size of the towel was adequate.} In our changing climate, natural, breathable fabrics will become essential. I would suggest all hosts should be mindful of this.
