The owner is a member of Clan Hannay, and there are a number of features throughout the cottage reflecting that family connection, including tartan in the twin bedroom and local ancestor portraits in the dining room. The clan’s seat is at Sorbie Tower, which is nearby and well worth a visit.Other activities include fishing, sailing and golf. Wigtown, Scotland’s national book town, and Whithorn’s historic dig are nearby, while Newton Stewart has a good range of shops, a cinema and swimming pool. Shop and pub 250 yards..

Great spacious cottage with everything you could need. Good communication from the owner before and during the stay, plus a nice welcome pack. There is a good pub and cafe, within easy walking distance of the cottage and lots of interesting places to visit in the Galloway area..

We had a great stay at The Cottage in Garlieston. The cottage is very well equipped and welcoming and is in a great location. The owner was very responsive and we really appreciated the welcome pack and phone call to check we had settled in Ok.Garlieston is a lovely village with an interesting history. We can recommend the Hive cafe and the Harbour Inn. The location is a great base for exploring places such as Wigtown, Whithorn, the Mull of Galloway, Kirkcudbright and the beaches and scenery of Dumfries and Galloway.
