An original gardener’s cottage, Orchard Cottage is a traditional, stone-built holiday home overlooking the orchard of the Galloway House Gardens and only yards from the secluded, tree lined, sandy Rigg Bay beach. You can hear the waves from your bedroom and you could even take your breakfast to the beach. Beachcombers will love this location as will writers and painters, nature and garden enthusiasts, activity seekers or honeymooners.
Walks for all ages and abilities start from the doorstep. Head south on the coastal path and through the woods to Cruggleton Castle and the surrounding cliffs. The village of Garlieston is northwards, via the Galloway House Gardens, famous for its spring display of azaleas and rhododendrons.
Golf and fishing are within easy reach, as are the Galloway Hills and the 7stanes mountain bike trails. Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town, Whithorn, home to the first recorded Christian church in Scotland and the harbour villages of Isle of Whithorn and Port William are a short drive or cycle ride away, reachable by quiet, country roads. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.

Enjoyed the stay overall, huge garden and location near the beach great for the dogs. The bedrooms, kitchen/living room and downstairs shower room were great. There are some things which need refreshing/in need of attrention such as the kitchen flooring, and we didn't use the dishwasher as the top shelf runner did not 'run' and the wine glasses would not fit in it, new tablemats. Some of the windows would not open and looked like they were in need of a clean. The upstairs bathroom would benefit from a window blind. Having said that, we had a great stay in a very peaceful and relaxing environment.

We very much enjoyed our second stay at Orchard Cottage, this time for three weeks. The location is fabulous, 200 yards from the beautiful Rigg Bay. We were terribly lucky with the weather too. Two little things: 1) The bed linen and pillows are of a very poor quality2) The occasional van and car passing very close to the front door was a bit of a worry as we have two little dogs.Apart from that we would thoroughly recommend Orchard Cottage.

Third return to Orchard Cottage which clearly suits us. Out of the way on a large estate but close to Rigg Bay. The bay is very tidal but makes good kayak and paddle boarding at high water.The lounge is small and lacking in the benefits of coffee table and discreet lighting, but the dining/kitchen is more spacious.Bedrooms are good sized and comfortable.
