At the heart of the space is a spacious kingsize bed, dressed in premium linens to ensure a peaceful and restorative night’s sleep. Large windows allow natural light to pour in, framing views of the rolling East Lothian countryside and enhancing the lodge’s sense of space and serenity. The living area flows into a modern, well-equipped kitchen, perfect for preparing meals after days of exploring. Outside, a private seating area offers a quiet place to unwind, enjoy the landscape, and take in the fresh rural air. Every detail of the lodge balances style and comfort, making it ideal for couples seeking a peaceful escape, history lovers looking to immerse themselves in the region’s past, or guests simply wanting a convenient modern base.
Set on the hillside above Trenant, Mary Queen of Scots Lodge enjoys an exceptional location with sweeping views across East Lothian’s fields, coast, and the surrounding countryside. This elevated setting offers tranquillity and privacy, yet keeps you close to local walking routes, charming villages, and key historical sites. Central to the lodge’s identity is its connection to the dramatic story of Mary Queen of Scots and the events surrounding the Battle of Pinkie in 1547. According to local tradition, Mary is believed to have found refuge at nearby Fa’side Castle, seeking protection within its walls as conflict spread across the region. The castle was attacked and partly destroyed during the battle, making the area a symbolic reminder of Scotland’s turbulent royal past. Today, the restored castle stands proudly on the hill, adding character and storytelling depth to the landscape around the lodge. Staying at Mary Queen of Scots Lodge allows guests to experience not just peaceful countryside living, but a place where centuries of Scottish history left their mark.
