The thoughtful touches, such as fresh bread and jam, contribute to the welcoming atmosphere.

Guests consistently describe the cottage as spotless, indicating exceptional cleanliness throughout the property.

The cottage's location is highly regarded, being close to the beach, shops, and local attractions. The only minor drawback mentioned is the limited Sunday hours for local businesses.

Reviewers find the beds exceptionally comfortable and the house warm and cosy, with special mention of the convenience of a downstairs bedroom and toilet.

The property is well-equipped with a kitchen, DVD library, and wood-fired hot tub. The only minor criticism is the perceived modest quantity of firewood provided for the price.

Guests are delighted by the welcoming gifts of bread and jam, although it's important to note that such gifts are a kind gesture and may not be provided on every occasion.

About this property

The cottage is immaculate and makes the most amazing base for a holiday in the Northern Highlands. The wood-fired hot tub and wood burner make Caldon Cottage a unique place to stay in Cromarty.. Caldon Cottage is tucked away in the heart of the conservation town of Cromarty on the Black Isle and is surrounded by Georgian architectural gems, whilst being only a couple of hundred yards from a Stevenson lighthouse. The outside space at the cottage boasts a wood-fired hot tub and large enclosed garden for the family and dog(s) to roam. The 18th century border walls create a sheltered space, that coupled with Cromarty’s benign and mild climate make for rare Highland al fresco living. Inside the cottage there’s everything you’ll need for your holiday. The kitchen is stocked and there’s loads of space everyone to relax, including round the woodburning stove. Importantly the cottage is accessible. There’s a downstairs bedroom and a large toilet as well as a Stannah Stairlift (please let the owner know if needed) to gain access to the family bathroom. There are two further bedrooms upstairs, a kingsize double and a zip-and-link set-up.

Built relatively recently the cottage stands in the former kitchen grounds of an 18th century merchant house. Cromarty has over 750 years of history. It became a Royal Burgh in the 1200s and grew to being the largest town in the Northern Highlands by the 18th century due to its salt-fish processing and sea-trade economy. The 1800s brought decline and the town’s story became one of survival. We’re pleased to say that now though this pretty little town is thriving once again.

With fantastic eateries, a brilliant 35-seat community cinema, its very own arts trust, a selection of small independent shops. Cromarty is most certainly having a moment. Right on the sea, Cromarty is situated at the entrance/exit to the Cromarty Firth, an outstanding natural harbour used by naval forces through both world wars. Today you’ll see different forms of shipping with most related to the renewable and oil industries. There are exploration rigs “off-duty” in the firth, and when you wander around the town these rigs makes for a striking juxtaposition between 18th century buildings and modern, industrial equipment.

The firth is also home to bottlenose dolphins that you can see from the town regularly. But the best way is to take a boat trip from Cromarty harbour (Eco ventures) so that you can get closer to the resident pod and also explore more of the firth. Beyond Cromarty the rest of the brilliant Black Isle awaits your explorations. Fortrose and Rosemarkie are very interesting with cafes and restaurants to enjoy as well as Chanonry Point – another brilliant dolphin watching spot and the location of the 15th oldest golf course in the world.

You’ll find some of the best mountain biking in the UK at Forestry Scotland’s Learnie Red Rock site. And the Black Isle Brewery deserves attention as Scotland’s only organic brewery. Skirting the Black Isle is the North Coast 500 touring route, and this is your gateway further afield to experience the majesty of the Highlands..

Caldon Cottage was the perfect place to stay had everything you need and more. Well situated close to beach and shops. the log burner was an added bonus as was the hot tub. Having a bedroom and toilet downstairs was perfect for our needs as was having the use of the stairlift.

My husband and I had a wonderful getaway at this cottage. The drive north through Scotland was beautiful, and we particularly enjoyed navigating the passing place roads – they reminded me of Stephen Greenhorn’s book “Passing Places,” which gave us a good laugh along the way.We arrived in a charming, peaceful village, and the owner’s email instructions were excellent – our satnav brought us straight to the door. The cottage was ready and welcoming when we arrived. As my husband is disabled, the stairlift was a real blessing and worked perfectly. The beds were exceptionally comfortable, and the log fire kept the house wonderfully warm and cozy.Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to use the hot tub during this visit, but that gives me an excellent reason to return! We explored the local area, visiting Granny Eileen’s caravan site and John O’Groats, among other spots. A lovely touch was finding fresh bread and oatcakes waiting for us on arrival, along with two jars of jam – what a treat. The area is beautiful, and I would highly recommend Caldon Cottage without hesitation.A couple of practical tips: bring food supplies with you, as the local Co-op, bakery, and restaurants all close on Sundays. Also, while additional firewood is available for £10, I found the quantity (a mini wheelbarrow) quite modest for the price. This is just my observation and shouldn’t discourage anyone from staying.Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Cromarty

A great property for a family get together giving ample space to avoid getting on top of one another. The wood fired hot tub was an added bonus and we used it two nights running. Cromarty is an interesting town with a good bakery, a nice pub and takeaway options, and there are some lovely walks round about.
