The House on the Point is a charming, rustic cottage on the Isle of Skye, celebrated for its tranquil, remote setting and abundant wildlife. Guests enjoy stunning views, a comfortable conservatory, and a well-equipped kitchen, despite limited workspace. The property's old-world charm and proximity to nature make it a unique retreat.
The cottage's cleanliness is generally satisfactory, though one guest mentioned it could be improved in some areas. This suggests that while the overall standard is good, there is room for attention to detail.
The location is highly praised for its tranquility and wildlife, with guests enjoying the presence of otters, seals, and birds. The remote setting is considered a highlight, although the access road requires careful navigation.
The cottage offers a comfortable living space and conservatory, but feedback indicates that the beds could be more comfortable. The stairs may also pose a challenge for some.
While the kitchen is well-equipped, there are comments about the need for maintenance, such as replacing the stove. However, there is not enough information to fully assess the state of all facilities and maintenance issues.
There are no mentions of gifts or special touches that would indicate the level of thoughtfulness. Therefore, it is not possible to provide a score in this category.

The House on the Point is the oldest house in Kylerhea and as per the name, sits on the point at Kylerhea and is a mere 10-12 feet from the “Hide Tide line”. There is nothing better than to sit in the sun room watching the tide come in, and hearing the waves as they hit the rocks right in front of your eyes. Sleeping upstairs can also be accompanied by listening to the loch and the surrounding wildlife. In the field behind the cottage are the owner’s Hebridean sheep, and back again are their two Shetland ponies. You really will have your own haven away from the hustle and bustle, as the cottage is at the end of a wee track so hearing traffic is a rarity.
The children will find their hideaways, as they go along the shore. Throughout the day, you can watch the seals and otters in front of the house and the frequent visitors of the dolphins, porpoises and basking sharks. Above the sea, you can see the golden eagles that fly the high ridges above while the two resident sea eagles Victor and Orla rob the fish off the seagulls outside the patio doors.
The loch in front of the house is the Kylerhea Narrows, and you can get the small community-run turntable ferry over from Glenelg on the mainland. The first sailing is at 10AM, and the last sailing is between 6 and 7PM and is dependent on the season. Although there is no advance booking facility, the local ferrymen would not see anyone left behind!
Whilst walking around Kylerhea you can see roe deer, red deer, mink, pine martens, weasels, foxes, adders and alpacas. There really is something for all the family, teach the kids how to fly fish from the rocks and enjoy the fruits of your fishing for your meal. The views at night from the house are some of the best views you will ever see, a great spot for the Northern Lights. This is truly a holiday cottage that you and your family will remember and pass on the amazing stories to generations to come.

Fabulous holiday in this little cottage. It's very isolated but that is the whole point of the stay here. We saw fabulous wildlife just outside the door and got amazing photos.

We had a great time at the House on the Point. The cottage is located in tranquil surroundings, ideal for spotting seals and otters. The house was comfortable and the kitchen had plenty of cooking utensils. The road to Broadford, where the closest gas station and shops are, was in good shape.

Beautiful location with stunning views and plenty of wildlife, boats etc to watch from comfortable conservatory. Daily visits from an otter. Plenty of seals. We hardly sat in the lounge but it was a comfortable space.Well equipped kitchen but a little short on work space. The beds weren’t the most comfortable I have slept in and the stairs are not for the faint hearted, we are all in early 60’s and managed them without anyone falling. The cottage is old and rustic, charming and homely. The 7 mile road down to the house takes care and concentration to navigate. If you want to relax and be in a remote environment with nature this house is perfect.Had a great time and didn’t want to leave our little bit of paradise.
