The Shieling is a tranquil and cosy cottage. The peaceful location is just a short drive from the village of Blackwaterfoot and all its amenities. The views from some of the windows of this early 19th century semi-detached cottage with ornamental fireplace and wood burner, reveal magnificent seascapes across to the Kintyre peninsula. Whilst staying on the Isle why not take the short ferry trip from Lochranza to Claonaig and discover a piece of Kintyre to add to your memories. One of the most southerly Scottish Isles, Arran encapsulates the grandeur and majesty of Scotland, but all packaged within an accessible area 19 miles long by 10 miles wide. Your holiday adventure begins on the ferry from Ardrossan with views of Goat Fell, Brodick Castle and the ancient and spiritual Holy Isle.

Arran is a fantastic place to see the second largest fish in the world, the basking shark. Frolicking porpoises and seals are frequent visitors too. There are mystical standing stones, a prehistoric burial site, a Viking burial mound and the natural cavern known as King’s Cave which inspired Robert the Bruce. The island has a scattering of pretty villages on Arran’s stunning coastline which are contrasted by a rugged and mountainous interior in the north. This is a natural paradise with sightings of red squirrels, golden eagles, red deer, otters, and seals. You can actually join an island safari! If you need inspiration for your picnic, beach barbeque or dinner then Arran offers it all on a plate and in your drinking cup! From jams, relishes, oatcakes, seafood, cheeses and chocolate to whisky and beer you will then have to plan one of the many walks on the island! With seven golf courses it is easy to see why the island holds such an appeal for golfers. For adrenaline junkies, Arran offers mountain biking, paragliding, canyoning, sea kayaking, scrambling and more!

At Blackwaterfoot you will find the Shiskine Golf Club with its unique 12-hole seaside links course which has attained cult status! There is also a tennis club, crown green bowling facility, restaurant, riding school, artisan bakery, Post Office, grocery store, The Kinloch Hotel and not forgetting the famous Arran butcher!

Lovely wee cottage with the most comfortable beds. Short walk to the coastal path by foot. Blackwaterfoot in easy reach (short drive) for shop and bar meals. The photographs don’t do it justice. The view from the lounge is mesmerising and the wood burning stove a treat after some damp walking.

The cottage is very comfortable, with impressive bedding and generally is very well equipped. The bathroom, with the luxury of an impressive jacuzzi bath, and a breathtaking outlook, is the icing on the cake. Shieling has a homely feel, is tastefully decorated and the garden with its inquisitive neighbours, the cows and birds, was a joy to chill in with an evening drink and stunning sunsets. A lovely base from which to explore this beautiful island.

We really enjoyed our stay at The Shieling. The accomodation was clean, welcoming and had everything we need. We Jacuzzi bath with views over the Mull of Kintyre was a wonderful treat. We could walk into Blackwaterfoot along the shore line to pop to the Hotel or pick up supplies from the shop. Loved sitting out in the garden watching the birds and befriending the curious cows in the field next door. A great base for exploring the whole island.
