Smiddy Cottage is a three-bedroom pet friendly bungalow set in the hamlet of Shanzie near the Town of Alyth and Glen Isla. The cottage has a large, secluded garden surrounded by woods with plenty of walks straight out of the door, you can walk to the river Isla and with spectacular views across to the Sidlaw Hills. The bungalow was built by the current owners and all the rooms are amply proportioned, there is an open fire in the lounge and with the main rooms being south facing it’s a great space to chill out, unwind and enjoy time with family and friends.

Third time staying here. Great if you like peace and quiet. Bungalow is set back from a quiet road and is set in a wooded area, so plenty of wildlife to be seen. We saw a red squirrel in the garden several times this visit. Bungalow was clean and well equipped.Large lawn for the dogs to run around on. Garden is not fenced, so if your dog tends to wander, probably best keep them on a lead.

The cottage was very warm when we arrived about 5pm. The bathrooms were great, lovely towels and comfortable bedding. However the heating developed some sort of a fault and came on in the middle of the night and left us cold and wrapping in blankets in the evening, even trying to work in on manual. There was no wood provided to even start a fire. The welcome pack intimated in the cottage do's and don't list suggested a welcome hamper and a bottle of wine. We got a bottle of elderflower cordial, and jar of chutney and a packet of breadsticks!The tea towel left for us was more like a floor cloth and there was no kitchen roll. It's in a lovely location but generally, the cottage could do with some upgrading and a bit more thoughtful interior decorating.

We absolutely loved Smidddy Cottage. The location was idyllic, the accommodation was spacious and quality. We especially enjoyed having a real fire and havoling breakfast in the comservatory watching the rain.One negative was the lack of hot water in one of the bathrooms and the walk in shower had a tendency to overflow.Apart from this it was great value for money and a well equipped retreat. Would definitely return.
