We had a four night stay for two at the Hen Hoose and had a lovely relaxing stay. We hadn’t expected the freezing temperatures and snow at this time of year but found it so cosy in the cottage seated in front of the wood burner. The owner kept us well supplied with dry logs. The kitchen had a Rayburn cooker which ran 24-7 so was always available to heat up or bake food as well as keeping the kitchen warm. An ideal cottage for four as there was a bedroom and bathroom at either end of the lounge diner making it very private for occupants in each room. A working farm with cattle, chickens and ponies, although we only saw the ponies from the cottage in the field so there was no disturbance from the farm itself. Generally, we had an enjoyable stay at the Hen Hoose and only an hour by car from Edinburgh.

The best thing about this cottage was the view from the conservatory which was amazing. On the recommendation of the owner we “moved on” and travelled home the following morning. This was after we had asked about how to turn the tv on because there were no instructions and later how to turn the heating on because again we couldn’t find any instruction. . These two enquiries were enquiries and requests for help but the owner accused us of making/looking for complaints.
